This is then maintained until it is turned off. The timer is for the ultrasonic only. When the timer expires and turns off the ultrasonic the heating remains on until you turn down the temperature dial or turn off the machines main switch. I've seen some reviewers complaining that that machine gets warm / hot when they have not switched on the heater. Well, of course it will! The ultrasonic generator uses power and this makes heat! Ignore their lower ratings as they simply don't understand how things work. This has worked very well and has great cleaning results and I would recommend it. The only thing I would have preferred is the drain tap like on the larger models but it was my choice to buy this one so cannot mark it down for it. **Q: should the heater power button come on?** A: Yes you set the temperature using the Temp+ and Temp- buttons . If it overheats, you are in danger of softening the special cement that attaches the ultrasonic transducer to the bottom of the bath causing premature failure. One thing to note, the water will heat up to about 44c even with the heater turned off, so this may be undesirable in certain situations. I use the bath for cleaning my vaping gear, and it works great.
