Can I plug in a separate mic to the desktop mic input and will it cancel out the internal webcam mic?

Through the audio settings you can disable the webcam mic Right click sound on the bottom right Open sound settings Go to input Manage sound devices Where it says input device you will have different mic options Click the microphone and click disable

Is it increasing contrast? One review stated that the pictures are very contrasting. This would make any images, in particular faces, look harsh.

I find it has more contrast than the camera built-in to my MacBook Air, but still acceptable to use

What is the FPS at 1080p?

Claimed on the box to be up to 30 fps - camera seems fine for Zooming, which is my main reason for using it.

Why would you want to. There are far better microphone only options than trying to use the built in Mic on a webcam. You could do it, but it would be a stupid solution.
