**Q: does it cut thin and evenly enough to make potato crisps?**
A: Yes, the finest of the three settings is perfect for making crisps :)

**Q: Thinnest slice - what’s the thinnest slice? Is that 0.5mm or 1mm? I want to use to slice potatoes.

A: Don't know. We bought this mandoline twice, the second as a replacement. On both occasions whilst trying to slice potatoes the reversible blade broke at its spot welds. The two parts were only held together by 4 spot welds. Personally I would find another make

**Q: Have any chefs used this at all?**
A: I'm a retired chef who missed this piece of kit at home. Unlike conventional mandalins this hand held one is very convenient really sharp easy to use and has 3 thicknesses. I like the way it has a ridge on the underside so it can be steardely fixed over the edge of any dish bowl or pan. The handle has spikes under it So the food item stays on and stops safely once finished. You can also lock the blade while cleaning. All in all I'm really impressed with my gadget it's a great quality piece of kit at a reasonable price I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone I would definitely consider other items from this range.

**Q: Will it slice tomatoes?**
A: The answer to your question is no.It will slice about half then as the tomato becomes softer it becomes impossible.

I love Oxo Good Grips products for their quality and price, so when I wanted a good mandoline slicer, I chose Oxo for that too. I really only wanted a simple gadget mainly to slice potatoes thinly for dauphinoise potatoes, I was not disappointed. The slicer works well, giving uniform slices of potatoes, and now that I have got used to it, I will be using it for a lot more slicing jobs. The thickness of the slice is also very easy to adjust. However, the blade is SHARP (very sharp), so rather that just use the blade guard, I also used a mesh metal glove to ensure my fingertips remained intact. This is not bad at all. We had a previous one which sliced into box but it didn't last long. We merely chose this because of the reviews and the quality holds up. It can be awkward to keep still at times however it's very well made and I'm to worried about this breaking easily. Slices well and washes easily. Good.
