### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great introduction to hi-res audio
*by P*** on 7 February 2017*

For the money this is a great introduction to the joys of hi-res audio - small, compact, Bluetooth enabled & SDXC compatible but best of all a great sound that's way better than what your average smartphone can currently generate. Yes the interface is clunky, the screen not particularly and the firmware is still a bit buggy but at least FiiO provide regular updates that are trying to improve the hardware experience. Due to the niggles I would normally have given a 4/5 but the awesome sound from such a small, compact and relatively cheap device deserves top marks

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good, but needs some software fine tuning to make it perfect.
*by R***S on 17 October 2016*

Very nice detailed audio, sturdy and lovely designed metal case. Nice ergonomics, one can reach all controls with one hand. Reasonable battery autonomy, but could be better. I hope the battery can be replaced once its lifespan has run out. Easy and logical software controls, even for the less technical. The new spin wheel is extremely touchy and frequently scrols past the wanted track or menu item. With most mp3 tracks using the next button a loud crack is heard just before the music starts to play. I find this distrurbing. Slow database build up of tracks on the microSD. Display is very readable under sunlight but the text is small even whet set to big. I'm runing FW1.2 and hope a future upgrade will solve this problem. Overall a recomended, good quality player that is worth its money but needs to be fine tuned in the software compartement wich I shurely believe will happen soon guarding the efforts Fiio punts in their past products. All these minor negativities combined with the nasty crack sound ads up to 1 point deduction. With the ironed out software glitches it will become an outstanding DAP for its money!

### ⭐ Give it a miss

HelloI recently bought a Fiio X1 ii on Amazon and would like to share my disappointmentn with potential buyers.I have just given a one star for this product review which I need to explain. This digital music player (it is no more than this but this is to their credit) is a perfect fit for people mourning the death of Apple nanos Ipod. The sound is great, the UI can't be more basic/easy (more on this later). When I tried it on the way to the office, with a small selection of stored pop songs, I smiled all along the way, and believed the rave reviews I read before buying it.Now back to the real world of software bugs and limitations.Disclaimer: I work in the software industry and I know what buggy software means. My expectation, which I thought not too far reaching, was to go to the next Ipod Classic.A simple music player, with intuitive UI, plenty of storage, and good sound rendition.Well I gave the one star for the third criteria.Regarding the App that manages the Fiio x1 that's exactly that App..alling.Imagine that each time you load up a new song/album, you have to reset the full library for it to recognise the information from that single song/album.When you have close to 20,000 songs/files on the SD card as I do, that's a lot of hours...if you reach that point of succesfully do the library update.Basically that's unmanagable unless you are a pensioner, suffer from obsessive disorder or have decided that no no new music is worth your storage space. But if, and this really a if, it worked, would it be worth the time and effort? Not really because for all these hours you will have spent updating the information on the Fiio library (and can someone explain to me why the library cannot update itself while loading the music files?), you will end up with a mess.Exemple: if you upload a double CD, like an opera or a musical, the files will be organised as CD1-f1, CD2-f1, CD1-f2, CD2-f2..., not really helpfull to follow the plot. So, if you have a large library, you will have to fully reorganise it before uploading if you want to find your chickens. But, all of that, I would have swallowed, because of the sound and because of the price. What I cannot bear is the fundamental lie that this is the new Classic with 256Gb.I should have been warned by a "recommendation" from Fiio's web site that, even with a 256Gb SD card, the number of files in the library should not exceed 30,000 files, disrecard of the card capacity. So they admit that the limit of the Fiio x1 ii is not 256Gb, but whatever their library App can cope with.Interesting, so what is that real limitation? My library has 18,750 files as of today (somewhere in the region of 180Gb max), from a mix, probably 50/50 between pop and classical, which means that some files are much larger than others, think the 9th Symphony of Beethoven compared to Bip Bip Bieber (Malher keep quiet, it's already difficult enough).Well, I have wasted my full WE trying to reason the Fiio and have him to accept to store my library which is supposed to be well under the library's limitation. The only thing I got from the machine when I did insert the loaded card was the welcome message, after which it's black screen and blue light for...a time (blue light means the player tries to achieve something). So (and I am not suffering from obsessive disorder) I tried again, this time with a 128Gb card and a more limited livrary, and then it goes...I had to reluctantly abondon the Ipod classic because of its storage limitations, now I am with a new music player with storage limitations which I don't know what they really are (and again, this comes on top of a basic but buggy UI).These people have no clue about what a brand is, and what brand loyalty means. They thow a product on the market place and try to correct it while on the run.Considering that this is supposed to be a secong generation product, benefitting of all the lessons learned from the first incarnation, I can only say give it a miss because if you are an occasional listener your iphone will do the job, and if you are passionate about your music you won't bear the limitations.Good Buy.M
