They have always been leakproof for what I use them - I never traveled with a bag full of soup in my backpack tho, so I don’t know your standards/ideas on leakproof. Fruits, cookies and sandwiches/bagels are fine to travel tho. Also for seasoning/marinating stuff overnight in the fridge they work great. The opening is finicky but that’s what makes the seal really good, so you have to pick your battles, and I never had any problems on transporting sandwiches - if it’s cut in half and arranged nicely. To take the contents out just press the corners into each other and the opening should suffice. They are tight. If they’re not tight, they won’t be leakproof. Get a bigger model if you want more space, you can’t have it all. They’re ok to clean, but drying silicone bags out is a bit of a pain in general, you have to stack them upside down on a glass or something and forget them there for a good few hours. Not a deal breaker but could be improved. Maybe selling then with a thin stand/dish rack add-on to dry them? I don’t know. I don’t use my Stasher for cooking/boiling/microwaving so I can’t comment on that. I bought cheaper ones to compare and I like them as well, but the Stasher does work and feel a bit better, specially on closing and opening, maybe the silicone quality is what does it, you do feel the slightly difference in touch/feel of the material. The seal seems pretty much the same and they’re equally useful to me. They’re dishwasher safe but I ended up always washing by hand for some reason so I also can’t comment on that. If you don’t want them for cooking/boiling, consider buying cheaper brands, they perform very similarly and are WAY cheaper - I got this one for £11 and the cheaper ones were a set of 3 for £15. There have been too many recalls from China and it makes me hesitate to purchase these, or anything from China that will be used for food. Because these are used for food storage, (unlike something like an electronic) the food is in contact with the material for a long time which increases risk of exposure to any unknown additives in the material.  The fact the "FDA & USDA" lets so much foul stuff pass inspection, is probably why it does make a big difference for us to research in order to make better, informed-decisions. The FDA is the same group that takes what's healing in nature, adds chemicals to it in order to patent it for profits, people end up sick or dead, they're caught lying, revise what they said. Rinse and repeat. USDA has also been caught lying by mislabeling things as safe which weren't. As far as the product meeting "US import policies" as a food container, or making it to the US market, that doesn't change serious legitimate concerns involving the recent tampering with our central nervous system and autoimmune system. Research the "biowarfare, biochemical" weapons program in China still in effect. It's "supposed to be" covert (an important detail). Please do clean and wash everything. I would much rather be made to feel uncomfortable by truth, than be, made to feel comfortable by lies. I love my neighbor as myself. **Q: how many bags for this price?** A: My first response was removed. (keep this in mind when reading the reviews) so I'll answer very succinctly. Yes, the prices are for one bag, unless you get the 7-pack of mixed sizes which, as of today, is about $95. In my opinion glass is far less expensive, safer, and longer lasting. (16 or 32 oz Ball jars cost less than $1/each if you shop them, 1/2 gallon is maybe $2.) There are good deals on Amazon for glass container sets too. The German/France LFGB method of testing is more comprehensive and strict than FDA. When I pay a premium for my silicone I accept nothing less than LFGB food grade, and the premium is usually only a few dollars more, eg, LFGB silicone ice cube trays are about $5 more for a set of 2 ($17 vs $12). This might be a reasonable price for a set of two of these bags. Search for the difference between FDA and LFGB food grade at Just Smart Kitchenware (& checkout the pinch test while you're there.) In time these will get knocked off and the prices for silicone bags will likely come down. A lot. Just as they did for silicone stretch lids and cookware. Competition will probably eventually emerge with LFGB food grade silicone bags as an option as well, and at competitive prices. If this answer gets removed I'm going to the mat, and I'll likely turn it into a review. ;) **Q: How much can a bag store? I'm interested in volume so I can freeze soups (stacked flat in freezer). Is this product appropriate for that?** A: The snack size stasher holds 9.9 fluid ounces, the sandwich size holds 15 fluid ounces, and our half-gallon stasher holds 64.2 fluid ounces. Stasher is great for freezing soups, however we recommend that you not stack anything on top of a full bag until the contents are frozen. **Q: Has anyone tried this for sous vide cooking? How did it work out?** A: I purchased a 7" and a 10" for Sous Vide. I agree with the other comment that it is difficult to get all of the air out with these. With ziplock bags, the bag molds itself to the food as you submerge it under the water. The Sasher bags are too thick for that. So the only way I see them working is if you put something metal in the bag to weigh it down.
