BOYA BY-M1 Clip-On Microphone for DSLR Camera/Smartphone/Camcorder/Audio Recorders - Black

Disclaimer: I am a newbie when in comes to microphones so I offer this review based on knowledge only gained over the past few days and limited use of this microphone. The first thing to say is that this is a powered 'electret' condensor microphone so you must not have it switched on when using it with a smartphone. I guess it must do nasty things judging by the small warning card to this effect in the box. Saying that, to plug it into a video camera, digital recorder and PC it is good to have the power so I was really pleased to have chosen this one rather than unpowered ones that are only a few pounds cheaper. For use with a PC you can of course get a USB mike which gets it's power via the USB but I reckon this model is more flexible. The build quality is excellent and the microphone itself is metal and so is the battery compartment. This compartment is nicely made and unscrews very smoothly. The sound quality is streets ahead of the inbuilt mike in my camera and anyone making a video with a live soundtrack should use a separate mike imo unless your camera is high end and equipped with a boom type one. My video camera does not support an external microphone so I use a cheap digital recorder (from Amazon !). There are loads of these - look out for 8gig digital recorder. The quality of the recordings these make are excellent even with the built in mike so I am hoping this will improve it even more. I agree with others on here that the long lead is really good as you can move around and away from your camera or recorder. All in all a great product and definitely worth the extra few pounds over the unpowered ones.

I picked this up as a more convenient solution for recording my voice for YouTube videos in places other than my main computer/console table in the living room, and it's been superb. Sound quality is very good indeed, with plenty of presence (though not quite as much as a condenser mic) and the super-long cable allows a decent amount of flexibility with where you place your camera. Works brilliantly with the OpenCamera software on Android, which has support for external microphones. I have had an occasional bizarre issue where a recording has ended up with some music playing over the top -- I can only assume that I did/said something while setting up the mic that the phone mistook as a voice command! I still tend to use my Marantz Pod Pack 1 mic for Let's Play footage (though this requires spending a bit of time syncing up audio and video during the editing process) but for recording intro segments and vlogs, this is a fantastic bit of kit for an incredibly affordable price, and a great beginner's mic.

This is a very nice microphone so far, the cable is very long, which is ideal. I thought it would tangle and be a nightmare to use, but turns out it doesn't seem to tangle up, and tends to just unfold properly. I've tested with an iPhone 7 using the 3.5mm to Lightning Adapter, and with an iPad Air 2, both of which worked as advertised. The sound quality was 4/5 for me. Good, but not amazing. This is without a doubt a huge improvement over the built-in mic on any device, and simply having the mic closer to you makes a huge difference. The sound does have some minor background hiss, noticeable when volume is high, but the quality is still amazing for what you pay. The other thing I noticed is that speaking loudly can cause distortion, so try to speak at average volume, avoiding shouting, and you'll get some decent audio from this thing. In conclusion, if you're like me, and want something decent that'll step up your audio game for a low cost, go for it. If you have plenty of cash lying around, spend a bit more on a higher end option. You could even go for a wireless version. But do not be put off this mic, it's fantastic for the money, and will be satisfactory for 90% of people.

I use that Microphone as my Rode Mic for my Mirrorless Camera was broken and despite my Camera costs over 1000 € the Audio from the built in Microphone is very poor. This very cheap Boya Lavalier Mic changes that dramatically, it can even hold up with a condenser Microphone I used for my comparison video and filters background nice quite well. It has a switch built in with a little battery to allow it to work also on Smartphones which is great and for the price of pretty much a Smartphone case you can get with that a Microphone and have actually great voice recording on your Smartphone too. The Built quality is OK I would say,I have seen better ones but for that price you can not expect everything and with the included pouch you can keep it safe so it should last a good while. If you search for SkymashiTV on Youtube, I reviewed the microphone there with a sound comparison to my condenser Microphone and you will hear the difference :) Fazit: If you need only every now and then a Microphone for your camera / smartphone or something to use until you buy one of the major brand ones, this is definitely highly to recommend, you can't go wrong with that! Why I rate it 5 Star, well mainly for that reason that you get much more quality as you usually can expect for that cheap price and that it is actually better then a built in microphone from an expensive camera.

Das Mikro wird mit einigem Zubehör geliefert und wirkt sehr hochwertig. Was aber viel wichtiger ist, es macht sehr gute Aufnahmen. Ich trage es bei Vorträgen und nehme stets alles zur anschließenden Selbstkritik auf. Ohne Nebengeräusche wie Rascheln, Rauschen oder ähnliches gibt es stets eine gute Aufnahme. Empfehlung.

Bom produto. Funcionou perfeitamente e tenho usado todos os dias. Só um detalhe: funciona a pilha. Veio com pilha, que está boa ainda. Mas sei que em algum momento terei que trocar a bateria. O fio é longo o suficiente para uso normal e até mais afastado da CPU. Valeu a compra.

La calidad es buenisima por el precio que tiene (16euros me costó a mi). He tenido que usar un adaptador por eso para poder conectarlo a mi camara (Sony a6400), pero funciona de maravilla, con una nitidez brutal. Como punto negativo (aunque para algunos puede ser positivo) es la longitud del cable, es demasiado largo y te queda un fajo ahí enorme. Estaría bien que fuese un cable corto y luego viniese una extensión de cable para tener más versátilidad. Pero bueno, por el precio que tiene...es que no se le puede sacar mucha más pegas.
