Will these cut thread? I want to take some scissors on the aeroplane so I can do embroidery but nothing too sharp.

No. I bought them for cutting embroidery thread based on the answer that said yes. They don’t cut it at all.

are these scissors good for a left handed child

Right handed scissors are joined so that a right handed person naturally squeezes the 2 sides together when using it. Left handed scissors are joined the opposite way to get the natural squeeze for a left hand. Ignore the nay sayers, take it from a lefty, they're worth their weight in gold. Especially for a child. Why add frustration for the sake of a few pence.

Do these cut straight?

They seem to be good enough. I only bought them for my nearly 4 year old to practise cutting skills.
