However, we would advise that at least an inch of water at the base would be sufficient. **Q: It says the inner body is all stainless steel but is the inside of the lid and the spout plastic? Also is the element concealed?** A: The element is concealed. I cannot remeber whether the spout and lid were plastic as the kettle did not last long. We threw it out when it failed to turn off once boiled. Living in a very hard water area we kept the inside scrutably clean of lime but the kettle still failed. **Q: Does this kettle come with scale filter at the spout?** A: I cannot remember. We stopped using it after a short time as it was too slow at boiling the water - we got a really cheap kettle that did the same amount of water in 3/4 the time of this one. It was alright at keeping the water warm once it had boiled but not as good as a stand alone flask. **Q: How do you know how much water is in the kettle?
