Just before Christmas (2019), I went to my cutlery drawer to get my trusty peeler to peel the spuds for dinner and couldn't find it. Gutted. How can something like that have disappeared? After interrogating the kids to find out if they've used it for a random weird project and still drew a blank, I've had to order a new one of these. I'd had one of these peelers for many years now. I find it easy and comfortable to hold, it's sharp so neatly peels the skin of assorted root veg very easily with minimal effort. I've got various other styles from I can't even recall where from but this is my go to. I can peel a stack of spuds for Sunday lunch for 8 people in no time at all. It claims to peel "even the toughest fruit & vegetable skins". Some of the fruit I've peeled include oranges, lemons and butternut squash (yes! butternut squash is a fruit!!) and that was easy to do. I've also peeled all the normal sort of veg you'd expect, spuds, carrots, swede, parsnips, etc. All were pretty easy to peel. The handle shape is slightly elliptical so it doesn't spin around in your hand. It's also made of a type of very grippy rubber that has a series of slits along the length of it. This gives you a very sure hold on it whilst peeling and makes it easy to manipulate it to peel even those gnarly shaped ugly vegetables that suddenly went trendy after Jamie & Jimmy made us sad about only buying straight and regular shaped veg. The product blurb says "won’t slip, even when wet". I can verify that this is true. It's still super-grippy even when it's wet, my hand is wet or they're slick with potato... water/starch/juice/slightly white wet stuff you get off peeled potatoes. It's symmetrical in shape with blades on both sides. I'm right-handed but I dare say that it would work just as well for someone left-handed. I've not had an opportunity to get any of my left-handed friends to peel my veg to verify this though. The end of the peeler as a small, sharpish, plastic scoop type feature, the "eye remover". That sounds a bit grim so I've not done that but it's great at removing the minging black bits on potatoes. I can confirm that years of use and going through the dishwasher hasn't harmed it in the slightest. Before my original one randomly went on walkabout, it's been through the dishwasher countless times and always looked as good as new. Both my original one and this new one came with a small plastic cover to go over the metal blade section of the peeler; the business end. This is fine but frankly irritating when it's just lying about on your work top until you're emptying the dishwasher. I never put it back on my original one and despite being in a drawer with all manner of other utensils, it never got damaged or the blade nicked so I don't think it's necessary for the protection of the peeler. It has the aforementioned big rubbery handle. Just as that's great for holding it securely, it's also great for picking it up so I've also never gut, scraped or nicked my finger with the blade either. I can therefore only conclude that it's to keep it all shiny and nice during transit. I've therefore sent the peeler sheath in the way of the first one, into the bin. As mentioned, I keep it in a drawer rather than use the large in-handle hole to hang it on something. I'm sure you could use it for that but I prefer to hang photos, paintings and maybe a clock on a wall, not vegetable peeling kitchen utensils. I highly recommend this product if you want to peel fruit and veg.

Like many, I've used various vegetable peelers over the years. Some good, most bad. This Oxo Good Grips is something else. Right out of the package, after removing the blade cover and washing, this peeler was a happy surprise. It is strikingly sharp and incredibly efficient. The blades are so sharp that they move smoothly and easily across various skins, peeling with incredible ease. Apples, carrots, cabbage, potatoes and even swede are easily skinned. I even managed some single peels! Nothing gets caught in the blades; everything slips through easily; no catching. The blades are secure without any wobble, which has been an issue with peelers in the past. The grip is a bit large, but for my hands, it's perfect and really allows for a good, secure hold. It feels SAFE. Honestly, cleaning is easy - those blades are made of something that doesn't allow for anything to stick. I regret not spending more on getting this before; it is so worth the money

For years, YEARS I have been going to my brothers and occasionally helping peel the odd vegetable. I always LOVED his potato peeler. I hinted again and again that I REALLY, REALLY wanted the exact same peeler because literally I loved it. Anyway fast forward to this Christmas and I was peeling vegetables at my brothers again and loving his potato peeler as per usual. And I’m like YOU KNOW WHAT I’m finding it. I’m getting it. I need this. So I reverse image search his potato peeler and LO AND BEHOLD there it is. On the Amazon. Now I don’t get my hopes up too much because I’m used to disappointment in my life. BUT it arrives and I say to my family “WE ARE HAVING MASH TONIGHT I HAVE A NEW POTATO PEELER I HAVE TO TRY IT OUT”. So I get it out the packaging and I’m trembling with excitement. I start to peel and IT IS THE SAME. Oh my goodness I was so happy. I called my child in to use it, I asked my partner to use it. “IT’S SO EASY TO USE YOU GUYS I AM THROWING MY OLD POTATO PEELER AWAY”. And I kid you not, every time I peel a vegetable now, in my very own home, I am having a great time. This is the best potato peeler in the world ever. YOU NEED THIS IN YOUR LIVES IT WILL COMPLETE YOU AND ALL YOUR VEGETABLE PEELING NEEDS. FIVE STARS!!

As far as peeling veg goes, this is the best peeler I have ever used. However, the eye remover is a bad design. I tried to remove an eye the same way as I did with my old peeler. Result, one badly cut thumb as it slipped and so did my thumb - right onto the blade so for that I've removed one star. This peeler is so sharp I put the safety guard back on the blade when I've finished peeling my veg. Good peeler, just be careful with it.

This OXO good grips fruit and vegetable slicer works very well, this is my third OXO good grips product I have purchased this year and every one has delivered beyond expectations. I use it primarily for peeling apples, it is very sharp so the blade protector is a welcome bonus. It is well made and robust, the design allows it to sit nicely in the hand whether you are left or right handed and it is just the right size for slicing both fruit and vegetables, as with all the OXO good grips products I have bought I think this is a really exceptional product for the price and I can whole heartedly recommend it.
