Marples M444 Blue Chip Bevel Edge Chisel - Set of 6, MAR444S6

These Irvin Marples chisels are of high quality and come packaged in a wooden storage box that holds them securely, although in mine an internal wooden strip to hold the chisels in place had become detached and needed re-gluing but this was not a problem with the chisels. Chisels come in the following sizes: 6, 10, 12, 18, 25, & 32mm and arrive ready for use, and that means extra sharp so be careful when initially opening the box. The chisels sit in the hand comfortably and have a 'nice' weight to them, this leads to a good level of control when they are in use. I have yet found the need for resharpening but will make sure that I use my honing guide to get the correct angle on the bevel. Overall a good product and I would highly recommend them.

I needed to replace my old site set as I gave them to a friend's son who has been accepted as an apprentice joiner. I decided to get a Marples set for my workshop and move the workshop set on to my site set. The set arrived in a nice wooden box, and the initial feeling is of a old quality set. The handles are comfortable, but remember they don't have metal caps so only use a mallet do Not use a Hammer or you will split the handles. The chisels needed to be sharpened and honed, but I fully expected that. In fact I look for that as I get to put my own edge on a tool I hand sharpen by eye, so my angel is my own not the factory. The steel seems fairly hard and took a very keen edge.,the overall finish on the chisels is nice well ground to a decent tolerance, and a nice graduation of sizes. They feel nice in my hand and so far seem to keep their edge. Yes you can definitely get better quality chisels but I rather think that these are going to last me out, and I don't see the point in spending on a name just because someone says that it's the only tool to buy, I want a tool that gives good service for fair cost. That's this set.

A really rather nice set that appears to have been made by Marples of Sheffield, which are that rare thing, a British family firm with a reputation for quality. Time will tell if that holds true, but, for the price, these represent very good value for money, and the wooden case is a lovely bonus.

Nicely presented entry level chisel set. They seem good quality and not bad value for the number of chisels. Could do with a 1 + 3/4 or 2" chisel as well and it would have been excellent. I decided to buy another larger old ward chisel separately for bigger mortices like sash locks and for hinges. I checked the bevels with my starrett and they all came at about 23-24° out of the box. So i used my shapton ceramic stone to grind a secondary bevel of 2-3° more, then I finished on a strop at super fine grit for a very small tertiary bevel. The first chisel I tried to sharpen took a gouge out of my ceramic stone due to a burr from the factory machining process. So I bought a very course diamond stone to start the secondary bevels before going onto the medium grit ceramic. They cut extremely well after this. It makes my carpentry course fun, just waiting for my next chance to use my super sharp chisels. But I can't say how long the edge will last because I just sharpen them at the end of the day anyway to keep them perfect. Overall I'm very happy with my first chisel set, but they are still an entry-level set and needed a bit of work out of the box. From here I will likely just accrue random high quality chisels here and there over the years. I don't mind having to buy the various sharpening stones as these will also last me many years and keep my planes razor sharp. Some other basic chisel kits come with oil stones and honing guides but the quality is not very good.

Had looked everywhere for a chisel set that came in the nice wooden box as a gift. This was perfect, good price and its marples so the quality is always there.

Nice sharp tools, helped me to get the job done without too much trauma. Nice tidy box for putting away and finding again when I need them

Der Stahl scheint auch nicht der härteste zu sein, da bei spitzen Winkel (ca 25 °) die schneide nicht gut bzw nicht lang ihre Schärfe behält. Aber wenn man die stecheisen mit einem mehr gestauchten Winkel versieht wie z. B. 30 ° hält die schneide gut und auch durchaus länger ohne dass nachschärfen erforderlich ist. Für jemanden der lieber spart und etwas Arbeit investieren möchte, sind das genau die richtigen
