A Great System to Store your Bike or Boat.
This is a very good system because the use of double pulleys means that you only have to pull half the weight of the cycle to raise it. (Of course, you have to pull twice the distance.) There is a brake on the pulleys which means that they are locked as soon as you move the pull rope away from the vertical. It is designed to mount parallel with the beams but you will need a batten if you want to instal it at right angles. A right angle chuck is required to drill the mounting holes in the beams but extra brackets are provided so you can screw into the beams as an alternative. Although Amazon says that buyers frequently buy a cleat hook you do not need one because one is included.

Great hoist
Having run out of storage space for my kayaks, this looked a good idea.I emailed GearUp a couple of times for dimensions etc, and they were excellent to deal with. The hoist itself is a sturdy bit of kit, steel plate is used throughout.Installation was easy enough, I just ran some M6 studding up through the brackets and garage ceiling, then through some timber laid across the joists.Couple of large diameter washers and job was done. The hoist lifts a 25kg kayak without problem, and the locking mechanism is spot-on.To lock it, swing the rope to the rear of the boat (similar angle to that in the picture with the yellow mountain bike) and to unlock it pull the rope towards the frontI had to swap-out the hooks on mine to get the kayak higher up, but if headroom isn't a premium the stock hooks are definitely up to the job (but are 170mm long)Overall, great bit of kit, incredibly well made and easy enough to use provided you allow sufficient room for the lock/unlock action. The instructions seem to have been improved too, I had no problem with them.

Hardtop hoist!
Used this to hoist my 67 fibreglass Corvette hardtop out of harms way. Clear instructions and managed to utilise one of the large straps and two of the short supplied straps. Unfortunately the roof joists not in the right place so took a bit longer to mount but still only a couple of hours.Had to be confident that the roof was secure so didn't mind paying considerably more than the other popular hoist on this site. You get what you pay for!

Works fine this way
Bought 2 for our bikes. Would have given 5 stars but found locking device fiddly to work with and it didn't always unlock when wanting to lower the bike. My advice - bypass the lock and just tie the rope to the provided wall brackets. I did add an extra hook, to the joist, between the pulleys. Works fine this way. Hooks on pulleys don't engage that well with the saddles on our bikes - might just be the shape of our saddles - others may be fine. Can be easily overcome by tying on rope or a nylon cable tie. Gets bikes out of way and leaves lots of room!

Try it.
Well. I ended up not using it as eventually we decided I don't really have a safe place to raise and lower a bike. A long time after I ordered it I contacted the seller and asked for a refund. They did so quickly and graciously. Item itself looks sturdy and well-designed. As others have said I would get a better rope.

Good device
Took a bit of fitting as the instructions aren't entirely clear, but works well and fits perfectly.

I use this for sliging my canoe from the roof of my garage. Does the job great. Cord seems very light but probably needs to be to be gripped by the mechansm.

Great bit of kit for the money
Great bit of kit for the money. Flexible mounting options(I mounted directly around the joists) plus lots of useful extras such as straps etc. Probably going to get another one as so useful.
