Beautiful
The book is beautifully written and illustrated, with enough text to engage the reader and lots of opportunities to interact and share. It’s sturdy and the peep holes are fun and satisfy curious children. A precocious 3 year old was very engaged with this book and wanted to talk about his knowledge.I loved it.

Love love love
My 23 month old absolutely adores this book. She chooses this from her bookshelf over the rest of the books. She likes lifting the flaps and finding the smaller flaps to lift. I really like reading this with my toddler as it is interactive and educational. My toddler loves animals, especially owls. She loves pointing to the animals and I can tell she’s picking up new things every time we read this book at bed time.

Love the tiny flap detail
There is a nice narrative that is easy to follow. My nephew is 8 and lived exploring all of the mini flaps....my daughter is 3 and was also living them amd following the detail of the narrative. We have a fee of the books in this series but this is the best by far.

Judge this book by its cover…
…the charming illustrations are indicative of the pages inside, which are a real treat for any age, IMO!Now and again a true gem comes along, and, for me, this is one ~ simple enough and appealing to the youngest eye, but with scope for the older one too with smaller flaps to negotiate and text on each page, sometimes a question that offers more scope for discussion about what is going on.The story is set over 14 pages, including the inside covers, in double spread format with durable lift-the-flaps in more areas than you first notice, some smaller than others. There is a surprising amount that goes on in those wee small hours, with short but informative sentences showing what is happening at the bakery café, on the (sleeper) train + the night time workers, the preparation at the market & the sunrise café + what the wildlife are up to.The typically quality produced board book, from Usborne, with ‘LIFT-THE-FLAP’ functionality measures around 16.5 cm x 19.5 cm, with rounded corners and a gently angled spine area that makes it easier to pick up.With more to the cover picture than first meets the eye, the thick cover is a matte finish with a crescent moon cut-out on the front that immediately attracts attention because it looks like it is shining in the starry night sky above the city buildings. The angular fox in the foreground is picked up in the lamplight and the owl’s eyes are bright in one of the trees. The pages inside are suitably set in terms of background colour running from dusk to sunrise hues, as the city wakes, and, as day breaks, the birds start to sing as the owl goes to sleep![7 images attached © Usborne Publishing Ltd]

Creatures of the night.... illustrated in a very sweet way.
My son now loves this book. He also surprises me when he talks about the night time creatures coming out (when the book isn't open). A topic not covered in many books. He points out moths around the light at night and looks for owls. Quite an eye opener for a little one. Fragile flaps, but worth the purchase.

A fun book with lots of snippets of information and flaps ...
A fun book with lots of snippets of information and flaps to look at. Possibly better to be read to a slightly younger reader.

A beautiful, calming and atmospheric lift-the-flap book
A beautiful, calming and atmospheric lift-the-flap book. It's perfect for bedtime reading as it peeps into houses, a bakery, animal activity, trains and markets. The illustration is quirky and beautifully coloured and makes you want to go out and prowl round under the moonlight. Some of the flaps (the house windows) are quite small and fiddly - my 2--year-old foud them tricky at first - but they are generally good and reasonably sturdy. My favourite bit is where the baby in the house is awake at night and sleeping peacefully come the morning :)
