Works well but be careful not to break it
As said above, it does the job well and I enjoy using it. It's light so for precise linework it works great and I'm sure with experience I'll be able to use a shavette more effectively. It is a bit tricky to get a blade in, although do bear in mind that the clear/white plastic case (which they mention used to be red) is for standard blades. It does have a bit of an unsecured lack of a perfect fit though. Since it doesn't fit perfectly, you will have to rely on having the blade stored in the aluminium blade holder-er holder. It comes with both standard DE razor blade and -Dovo's own make- extra long blade, Which I assumed it wouldn't be bundled with as it states "No Blades Included) so it could have been risky when I dropped the blades (in wax paper packaging, at least) on the floor.I would give it a better rating, however the plastic scale broke while I was handling it and I would now have to resort to using superglue to fix it. If the other side near the pivot pin breaks, the scale is completely detached. So be VERY LIGHT in gripping when handling the shavette as the plastic scale is a bit of a weaker material. I had to drop value for money due to the fact of the plastic just being too easy to break.Other shavettes with metal or wood scales probably won't have this issue, but they also are made of rustable material, whereas this shavette is coated and the only part that could rust would be the disposable blade (also do wrap up blades in the paper, otherwise clearly label a container, when disposing into recycling). In conclusion: Good, but if you have a heavy grip you have to be careful with the black plastic scale.

£30 I think is a bit much for this but it's a good start to using a straight razor.
I wanted to find a good way to fine tune my beard and so I was recommended by my father to use a straight razor to tighten up those edges. Before I was just using a Gillette cartridge razor to fine tune but I found it so inaccurate to use I would sometimes overstep my mark. I got a few nicks and bumps the first time round but I am finding I am getting better at my technique the second time round. The blue Dovo looks okay. It's a bit lightweight in the hand but it is solid. It uses a plastic sheath system to house standard DE razors; you simply snap the razor in half lengthways inside its paper wrapping, you take one half and align the divots on the side with the pegs on the clear plastic holder. Then you close the holder and insert it into the shavette. Simple, but the holder on second use came apart at the fold. Doesn't make it less functional if you're careful, but for £30 it stings and I naturally expect more for my money. All in all, ideal if you want to start using a straight razor but it there might be better bargains to be had.

A Sharp Learning Curve!
A quality Shavette I bought this to see if straight razor shaving was for me, having since learnt a lot I recommend buying a shave ready cut throat dovo razor or one from a honemeister as it is much more forgiving to shave with having said that it could be because i learn't to be VERY careful using this shavette for my first 2 months of straight shaving which very probably helped my use of a real RazorMy advice be sure to shower first to soften your beard shave at a 30 degree angle with PROPER shave cream/soap and badger or boar brush also order a styptic pencil as you will nick yourself while learning start slow on just your cheeks first and continue with your normal razor and be patient practise makes perfect! Research on the forums greatly helps you learnEven using proper shaving cream and brush i get a great shave from only a disposable now if i am in a rush!

Great introduction to straight shaving.
This is a very well made, lightweight shavette. Basically it's like a straight razor but with replaceable blades.I'm over simplifying here but not by much. This can take normal DE safety razor blades or extra long Dovo blades.I chose the later as the longer blade more accurately represents a straight razor.Combined with a good soap or cream and brush, this will give you one of the closest shaves outside of a professional barbers.I would suggest buying a sample pack of blades to see what suits you best. I prefer feather blades, they are japanese and renowned for being extremely sharp, you could almost accidentely split an atom with them.

Light easy to use razor
This shavette is a nice light one that is good for travel and has a removable blade holder. The only slight niggle is that the blade holder sometimes is a bit too tight or too loose, I ended up squeezing it together to ensure a tighter fit but it does mean that it can sometimes be a little hard to remove again.I liked that there was also a full dovo length blade included as it meant that I was able to try out the slightly longer blade before deciding if I wanted to purchase a full pack of blades.

Very cheap item for the price
I received the item on time as promised. It was wrapped in a sticky plastic foil and sealed inside a standard enveloped.Too light to handle for my very sensitive skin, which needs of a proper balanced item to avoid cuts.Returned.

Good shavette, bit expensive and gets hair stuck in it
Not a bad shavette really, but for a piece of folded aluminium and a plastic sheath, £30 is a bit steep. It's very light in the hand, great for travelling!Hair tends to get stuck between the blade holder and the blade, but it doesn't seem to adversely affect the shave. I pinched the blue aluminum bit together a little and that seems to hold the blade tighter and helps a bit.Couldn't get on with the long blade supplied, but that's just personal preference. Mostly just happy to not be paying Gillette squillions for Mach 3 heads anymore!

The handle is good quality plastic with a nice finish and seems plenty ...
I've not used this unit yet my review is based on the quality of the blade handle. The handle is good quality plastic with a nice finish and seems plenty strong enough with a light feel; the blade insert holder in a spring metal and holds the blade inserts very well. It comes with three styles of blade inserts, one for a half double edge razor disposable blade and two inserts for using full size "Shavette" disposable blades. Always use the best quality blades you can find "Wilkinson Sword" for an example !
