Not as expected
It is bulky and takes a lot of space behind the seat. As it is easy to detach and its also pretty heavy I am concerned about the passenger’s safety sitting in front of it. According to ADAC it should stay in place up to 50kmh but what happens above that speed level? I would not risk putting it in front of the kids car seat! Manual doesn’t say anything about automatic on off function. What if in my car’s electric socket works after engine shut off? No pm 2.5 monitor which at this price point it is something I would expect. Its well built high quality air purifier but not really suitable for family cars.

The product does what it supposed to do but if you wish to use app to control it, you need to enable location services on your phone! Basically, give permission to be tracked! Why? This is not necessary and just sells your data! Shame!

We routinely drive miles thru fire country to take care of aging parents. Previously we would use a car adaptor and a small Austin Air machine for smoke from active fires. The Atem Air is a great replacement particularly in a passenger car where it keeps the air free of smoke. It is lightweight and easy to move from car to car. And the app has made changing the settings simple. We have a few potential upgrades: - It is a bit difficult to get on a car headrest with the adaptor and the adaptor is expensive. Would be nice to have an easier time moving between cars. - Because we move it from car to car we bought the carrying case. The case is nice however it does not fit the car adaptor. So if we just want to bring the unit but not install it the case doesn’t keep things together for us. - We can’t keep the unit running when it is in our van and we are sleeping. Also, it has bright lights that are annoying. While it is great for mild campfire smoke, it is a bit undersized for a sprinter van when there are fires, so we continue to use our Austin Air machine. - There really is no way to tell what the filter life is. We have run the same filter for serveral years and it is at 97%. I just don’t believe that the filter has 97% of its life left.

It helps a lot with exhaust, car interior off-gassing, smoke from fires and other external odors/chemicals. It's not an instantaneous solution if you get a blast of diesel exhaust as it takes a while to filter through, but helps a lot overall, especially on older cars that can't get carbon in-cabin filters. I bought one for work as I drive a delivery van about 250 miles a day, including freeways and farm roads with a lot of exhausty diesel trucks and farm equipment. I rarely have passengers in the work vehicle, so put it on the front side of the passenger head rest where it's easy to access the front panel to change speeds. Some days I barely use it, but other days if there's wild fire smoke it gets high use and makes a big difference. And I know where on my route I may need it, and it's easy enough to reach over an give it a tap or two. I wish there were a remote, because when I take it to travel in my car it's got to go in the back seat head rest where I can't reach it on the fly. Sure, could use the app, but especially when I'm driving for work accessing a mobile app isn't preferable. The app is annoying. I don't want to turn on location services, especially because it wouldn't work with location services just for the app, requiring me to turn on location services for my entire phone to get the app working. I'm not an always connected always online type of person, so I only ever access the app long enough to make changes to the fan speeds or check the filter life then everything gets turned off again. This would be a perfect device if there were more non-app, less-connected options. Like a remote. And a filter indicator on the unit (not sure if it'll just turn off one day as I still haven't gotten to the end of the initial filter life, but it wouldn't have been hard to engineer in a green, yellow, red light to indicate filter life). Even with these issues, it's a beautifully designed bit of hardware and has helped me a lot with in-vehicle odors and chemical issues. Highly recommended, just don't think it's going to be a perfect, instantaneous solution to acute odor/chemical issues. That's not what it's designed to do unless you stick your mouth over the thing. What it's designed to do it does very well, however, and is definitely worth it.

I have MCS, and this filter is the one I use in the car. I still have to wear my mask in the car (like I do pretty much everywhere that there are people who aren't my family), but this really helps. I take it inside with me at my in-laws when we visit and use one in my office at work. Indoors it cleans the air enough for me to think and sleep well - the car just has way too many chemicals (VOCs) for me to tolerate them even after this air cleaner takes out as many VOCs as it can. I rate it about equal to my Austen air cleaners that I use at home and in my classroom. The one drawback is that it needs the filter changed about twice a year. It lets you know when the filter is used up through the app and by turning on the red instead of blue light while running.
