It is however gentler on my scalp. Hope this helps. **Q: are the pins larger than in other normal brushes?** A: A little but not massively. I have this brush & it's great. I use it when I want a straight hairstyle & it reduces frizz. Since using it my hair seems to be a lot more shiny as well.
