I am an aficionado of expresso, how close does this get to a real expresso bought at a coffee shop?

This will come down to a personal preference, for me, and especially whilst camping (using a tent) it does the job.

Will this just make an espresso or can it also be used to make a larger americano style coffee?

The machine will give you a double espresso, then add as much hot water as you want to your cup to make it a lungo or americano. Not a workaround, that’s how Americano is made.
