Very durable and reliable - a green alternative to cheaper, less reliable retractors
Bottom line: Very well constructed item whose durability makes it a green alternative to other cheaply constructed offerings.Pros. Very well constructed, cord pulls and retracts firmly and stainless belt clip is firm and robust | Suitable for heavy badge setup | Universal shape size allows for badge customization | Durability means fewer retractors going to land fillCons: Higher price than other offerings. (However, costs less over the long run since you be buying fewer replacements.)Bonus hack. I'm a Red Sox fan and have to say their authorized badge retractors are poorly constructed and break within a few months. It's a shame since the enameled medallion with the Red Sox logo affixed to the front is very well made. I pried off the medallion from the broken one and affixed it to this one. Looks original and will last much, much longer.Update 3/26/2021 (34 months after purchase)It finally died. The manufacturer says rated for 1 million pulls. Well, let’s see. As a medical surgical nurse, I work a 12 hour shift about 15 days a month. I estimate I’m pulling my badge once every minute per shift to access computers, medication room, restricted rooms, etc., which equates to 60 pulls per hour. So, over its lifetime, I estimate 367,200 pulls (12 hrs/day x 15 days/mos x 34 mos x 60 pulls/hr). I figure between sick calls, vacations, and adding and extra shift here and there, I figure this is a pretty good approximation of pulls. So not even close to one million pulls. So let’s examine my theory that the build quality and longevity of this retractor offsets the higher society cost of lesser quality alternatives. Well my colleagues who purchase cheaper (or free from work) say they go through about 3 retractors per year. So over a 34 month period, I sent one dead retractor to landfill versus 8 if I had chosen the lesser quality alternatives.Bottom line. While this product doesn’t last for 1 million pulls, it’s still far superior to the lesser quality retractors out there. Still a cost-effective, green alternative. I bought this one again.

Best retractable badge holder I've owned
I use this for my work badge as I have to badge in to every building and it works great. It is very durable, and the nylon strap looks like it'll outlast the last couple of cheap ones I had. The clip is very stiff, and the only downside is that it is destroying my leather belt. Overall, very pleased with the quality of this product.

Good so far
I go through badge reels like candy. I have to swipe in to computers to chart, swipe for timecard punches, and swipe to open doors so I put a lot of wear and tear on them. I even broke two of the all-metal badge reels available here on Amazon, both suffered from weird bunches in the metal cable after a couple months. So I bought two of these and surprisingly, I haven't even broken the first one! The action is smooth and not too strong, it's pretty light, over very happy with it.

Tough cable. Crummy retractor device and clip
Perfect size and shape. Clipped perfectly to my change pocket in my work pants. Perfect durable cable. Then the clip snaps off. I rest it in my change pocket, but any decent tug to get at a key yanks it out so I use the backup. Works like a dream for two weeks, then it never retracts again. Next time I will spend a little more.

Broke after a month and a half
The winding spring works great, but the clip was always pretty loose on my pants pocket (though probably works great on a belt). Unfortunately the clip has separated from the body already, making this useless. The cheapies I buy from WalMart last much longer than this one did.So disappointing!

Works fine, cheap enough
Works fine, cheap enough, holding up just fine so far. I'm always extending the badge to swipe in and out of buildings so this gets used a lot, and is holding up great in the first couple of months or so of use. No complaints whatsoever. I would recommend this for sure.

Pretty durable
Are use this for five days a week at work at the airport. Every time I go through door I simply pull the badge away from my lapel and swipe it. It is small. And works great. Very happy! I bought another one for win this one finally breaks.

Keeps on working
Used my first one of these everyday multiple times a day at work for two years and almost cried when I lost it. I work with preschoolers who love to pull it out as far as they can as well. Have had this one for 2 months, it is equally as good! This level of quality is so hard to find these days. Love it!

works much better than the one I was given for free
Use it countless times daily, works much better than the one I was given for free. Can't imagine I'd need the second one any time soon but I'm glad I have both!
