## Description

This guide includes all 39 species of North American hawks and other diurnal raptors, including eagles, falcons, and vultures. Color paintings and photographs show each species in various color morphs and plumages, which are aso described in detail.

Review: Buteos are tough - I live in South Texas on the Mexican Border and see a great many hawks and falcons including Buteos. For whatever reason, some of these buteos are difficult for me to identify. I'm sure this is because of the plethora of morphs and juveniles but I'm also sure that my thick-headedness is also a factor. Anyway, I've been looking around for a good reference to help me out and find that, of all my birding books, this book has helped me the most. For me, at least, excellent drawings are more helpful than photographs although good photos are also helpful. Clark and Wheeler's 'Hawks of North America' has both. In addition the organization and logic of this book is quite good. I can recommend it. Ron Braithwaite, author of novels--'Skull Rack' and 'Hummingbird God'--on the Spsnish Conquest of Mexico
Review: An Excellent Guide to the Raptors - This is an outstanding book. The plates are excellent, and the species accounts and range maps really round out the book nicely. What I think should be said is even though the photographs are fine, this book should be purchased with "A Photographic Guide to North American Raptors" by Wheeler and Clark. In my opinion, this book adds to the field guide by supplementing its photographs with the ones from Wheeler and Clark. They are larger, and show more detail, and when combined with the field guide plates, you have a combination that can't be beat. If you like raptors, this is definitely the way to go.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best raptor field guide out there.

I realy like the semi hard back design of this book. It is almost like a hard back book. I especialy like the fact that instead of paintings like most other books this one uses actual photos of the birds. I have been using this book for some time now but had to replace it due to the old one getting submerged in water. This guide along with several others are always in my vehicle for use when I spot a rare hawk that I need help identifying. If you like hawk watching this is a must have book.
