Colour Name:Green Product Description Discovered in 1930, and reclassified as a "dwarf planet" in 2006, Pluto is composed primarily of rock and ice. This wind chime is designed and handcrafted for superior musical performance. It is hand-tuned to a universal, pentatonic (five-note) scale and acts in concert with the wind to create random patterns of wonderful sound. Harmonises beautifully with all the other Encore Collection windchimes In 1979, GRAMMY(R) Award-winning musician and instrument designer Garry Kvistad created the first Woodstock Chime from an aluminium lawn chair he found in a landfill. Fascinated by the Scale of Olympos, a 7th century pentatonic scale that can’t be played on a modern piano, Garry cut and tuned the lawn chair tubes to the exact frequency of the ancient scale. The resulting Chimes of Olympos was the first Woodstock Chime and is still one of our best selling, musically tuned windchimes. Garry and his wife Diane founded Woodstock Chimes in 1979 and still develop the chimes today. It remains a family-owned business in New York’s Hudson Valley Box Contains 1 X Woodstock Encore Collection Verdigris Chimes of Pluto Windchime

Soothing...the kids and the neighbours love it!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I have started bird watching and as a consequence spending more time outside. Unfortunately, I live near an airport so I decided to make outside a little more pleasant by attracting more twitting birds and introducing some relaxing music. This wind chime is perfectly tuned...not clinky like the annoying cheap ones and looks really good. It's of very good quality and seems long lasting. I am yet to see it perform on a rainy day.

Music on the Wind!
After decades of enjoying Mike Oldfields 'Tubular Bells', I have found delightful replacements that cost absolutely nothing to play, just a slight breeze. It is particularly pleasing to introduce the charming chimes so lovingly created in New York State to the southwest Highlands of Scotland. The bronze 'Pluto' chimes are not only enchanting to look at, but produce a perfect aural feast. While I fully expect the chords to need replacing over time, I anticipate the sounds will past as long as there is a slight breeze. A light application of oil to the wood and the chimes will ensure this. Can't recommend them highly enough. I was so enthralled with my purchase that I have since bought the captivating sounds of 'Mercury', the smallest planet, to tinkle in my garden as an additional treat.

Inadequate packaging.
I bought this as a gift for a friend . Unfortunately it was not adequately packaged . The large address label was stuck firmly on the original box and it has taken me half an hour to remove the label but unfortunately you can still see where the label was and it feels sticky. The ends of the box were not secured at all just tucked in and it looks like the top of the box has opened in transit and someone has tried to stop the contents from falling out by scrunching up the tissue paper inside. The box has a battered appearance and really is not what I would give to someone as a gift.I am really disappointed.I cannot comment on the chimes.

Tremendously beautiful, sounding radiant and happy!
I actually bought three different sets of Woodstock Chimes, each tuned to a different scale, not for any conventional purpose but for my 'Wind Chimes in the Wild' field recording project. For this I would take one or more sets of chimes out to a carefully chosen reasonable wild place, hang them up on trees alone or in various combinations where there was sufficient wind, and make longish recordings of the whole natural soundscape, incorporating the particular chimes sounds. These recordings have proved to be exquisitely beautiful, and my plan is presently to arrange commercial produce-on-demand CD productions of many of those recordings, which would then go up on Amazon.com. In the meantime I am putting a 5-minute excerpt of each recording up at Freesound.org (my personal website links through to all that). The full length recordings of combinations of the chimes are not soporific like the commercial recordings of wind chimes as 'relaxation' sound, but are in some cases quite as engaging as a work of symphonic music.I chose the 'silver' finish version of each set of chimes, because listening tests on other sites that gave short sound samples of the respective chimes to listen to showed that the 'silver' finish ones had an altogether brighter, 'sunnier' and more 'open' sound, I think because the various alternative finishes somewhat subdue the higher overtones. The Chimes of Pluto are the smallest set that I bought, and thus are higher-pitched, but not at all so high as to become New-Agey little tinklings. Their tones ring out clearly in the radiant pentatonic scale that they have been precision tuned to. The sound is radiant, with a happy feel and tending to emphasize a particular major chord.Curiously, in the recordings that I have made of combinations of the Pluto chimes with the Chimes of Olympos or / and the Tenor Gregorian Chimes, the Pluto chimes seem to have a completely different musical personality. Then, instead of sounding radiant and 'happy', although still being an uplifting element in the overall sound picture, they give at least me the impression of being more like a commentating chorus in some Ancient Greek tragedy. Curious and intriguing!Anyway, I have to say it - the sound of any and all of those chimes is beautiful beyond description and is far removed from the popular image of wind chimes as being just New-Agey sweet little tinklings. Okay, part of the equation here is the way that I, a composer with a highly sensitive musical ear, am using and recording them in a manner that gets the best out of them, but I think few reasonably sensitive people would not be moved by the beauty of sound of any of these three sets that I bought.I cannot commend these chimes too highly. My own preference is for a well balanced timbre, with a clearly audible and reasonably even spread of overtones, right into the highest reaches of the audible frequency range, and these silver finish ones seem to fit the bill admirably.Update, 21 November 2013:During the spring and early summer of this year I obtained a succession of the most exquisitely beautiful recordings of various combinations of the Pluto chimes with the Woodstock Polaris, Mercury and Mars chimes on Cornish clifftops, with sea action ranging from gentle, through 'interesting' to outright dramatic. I now have available a big range of my recordings of 'Wind Chimes in the Wild', which you can find if you Google "philip goddard e-store" (not in quotes), some of which include the Pluto chimes.

Quality garden ornament
Really happy with my purchase. The chimes are quality made and look really well hanging amongst the trees in my garden. The chimes are a rich but unobtrusive sound. I've had these for several months now and despite the poor weather they are showing good signs of wear. Worth the money IMO.

Very sturdy
I’ve bought loads of wind chimes before and they don’t last long with the strings snapping. This one has survived high winds and sounds lovely. I might take it down during the snow though. But a lovely addition to my garden and also positive comments from neighbours re hearing it.
