I can gauge out the decay. Shall I treat the entire sill with this product?over the paint?** A: Make sure you gouge out all the decay, and bear in mind that even if the exterior of the sill is good, underneath / inside might be rotten. (If in doubt, take more out rather than less.) Sand off surrounding areas of paint using coarse sandpaper. Drill a few very small holes (or gouge out slots) which will help the hardener penetrate. Then let everything air-dry for a couple of days. Only then apply the hardener (wear latex gloves and don't get it on anything, as it's vicious stuff). Best let it dry for 72 hours. I then always apply more and leave it for another 3 days. A pain to have to wait, but it works. Make sure you then use the super-tough two part Ronseal filler (green tub), not normal wood filler (purple tub or tube): if you use the latter, and if there's the slightest bit of rot left in the wood, the filler will never harden. The two-part stuff is extremely good but you need to work quickly as it cures very fast! **Q: can you paint over Ronseal Wet Wood Hardener** A: My experience is no. I applied the hardener to all my window cill, then filled some small areas with the Ronseal epoxy filler, sanded and painted with oil based primer/undercoat then with oil based top coat. One year later the paint was peeling over the areas not filled but not peeling the areas filled. The hardener was beneath the epoxy filler so wasn't in contact with the paint. The rest of the window I painted the same way but without the hardener and that held well. **Q: Can this be used on rotten floor board? Under the bath which was caused by a leak , I am trying to figure out the best way to prevent and repair .** A: I used it on rotten wood that clad the overside of the dashboard on my motorhome. The condensation from the windscreen had accumulated over 23 years! The liquid worked perfectly. When dry, I coated the wood in yacht varnish, and that worked as well. Maybe you should cover under your bath in thin marine ply to finish. **Q: I have a solid wood worktop around my sink that has started to blacken, would this and the natural wood filler be the right choice to repair?** A: The wood blackening is due to Mold. If this wood is also soft (wet rot) it will need removing down to sound wood. Using the wood hardener will harden the sound wood, then the filler can be applied.
