The outside feels like imitation leather (soft) and the insides are lined with nice fabric (in my case, dark brown). These look fabulous atop my entryway furniture and are affordable to boot. Review: The faux leather is good with a glossy surface. The color is as pictured. The covers are puffy making them slightly rounded. The large book is huge. The other two are average. There are slight irregularities in construction, though it's not glaring. The book ribs on the spine actually match the decoration--something hard to find at this price point. No magnets to hold book closed in the event of upright display--not a problem for the larger books, but might be an issue with the smaller one.
