very good alternative to sugar
This is a good product if you're avoiding sugar. The great thing is there's no aftertaste, though in large quantities can produce a cooling effect on the tongue. Compared to other sweeteners, this is my favourite. No effect on blood sugar levels, not artificial (though highly processed of course) and no bitter aftertaste - unlike you get with stevia or sucralose. Apparently, it's a natural product, present in some fruits, but it's not fructose (which does affect blood sugar levels). AND NO CALORIES!!!! The packet says to use a third more than normal sugar but I find I don't need to use that much more. It takes a bit longer to dissolve than normal sugar - especially in cold drinks. It can be whizzed in a grinder to make smaller crystals. I make castor and icing sugar alternatives with it, which work better in baking and dissolve faster in cold drinks. (It's cheaper to make your own icing sugar from this product than buy the icing sugar variety.) I use it in baking and the tip is to add plenty of other flavours and not oversweeten. I always taste the mixture before baking to check. It needs to taste more powerful than you really want - once baked it's fine. Lemon, cocoa, vanilla, almond, coffee, fruit flavours, peppermint - all are good disguises. I don't think it will caramelise like normal sugar (the meringues I made were the only thing I wasn't pleased with). But there is a golden version which I haven't tried yet, it has a more caramel-like taste apparently. So that's next on the list. Buying this big sack is good value compared to smaller ones if you're going to use it a lot. I got a small bag first to check I liked it, then took the plunge with this. I'm just about to order another.

Great product, just not as great for my own personal use.
I am giving this product 5 stars for the simple reason that it is exactly what it states to be, the quality is good and the price is good. However, if I were to review this product on a personal level, I would give it 4. I find pure erythritol to be of barely noticeable sweetness, which in fairness is what is to be expected of it if you have done your research on sweeteners. This is fine, but it means quite large amounts of it are needed for sweetening. This is fine in itself since erythritol is supposed be the least problematic of sweeteners when used in large quantities, unlike others such as xylitol etc. However, a) this uses a lot of product and b) it's quite hard to get the sweetness right. You find yourself thinking you surely must have put in enough, only to taste the outcome and find it's still not sweet enough. Some other sweeteners are a mix of erythritol and oligosaccharides which make the product sweeter, and thus you need less of it. This is all down to personal preference, of course, but having tried both pure erythritol and the mix, I have found that I prefer the mix simply for ease of use. I believe Candarel was the mix brand I tried, although I am unsure if it is available in England.

Windy!!
Great sugar alternative for people sensitive to sugar, diabetics etc but causes flatulence!! Would use but only in very small quantities, eg half a teaspoon in coffee.

Opening the packet reveals something that looks exactly like granulated sugar
This the first time I've ever tried erythritol, so I don't have any basis for comparison with other brands. Opening the packet reveals something that looks exactly like granulated sugar, and a dipped finger reveals it is sweet and with a slightly cool aftertaste as some have mentioned. The coolness is not a big problem for me as I've been stirring it into plain yoghurt, so it's a cold food anyway. In baked products - I've made individual cakes and some biscuits - it's a little different, but nothing that would stop me using it. For the biscuits, I added some stevia so that I could reduce the amount of erythritol - win/win as there was no bitterness from the stevia and the coolness from the erythritol was virtually undetectable. I learned this from the cake experience though! It's very odd to eat a cake that makes your tongue cold, so do play around with quantities and combining with other alternatives. As a warning, if you are heating/reheating anything with erythritol in, keep an eye on it as I found that it caught in the microwave. All in all, I would say don't expect to use this exactly like you would use regular sugar and do be prepared to experiment, especially if you want to avoid the cool aftertaste. I am more than happy to experiment to help reduce my carb/sugar intake, so this ticks all the boxes for me.

Brillint
I have been using this for years now. It has almost the same consistency as sugar so is ideal for cooking as well as in your coffee. Best alternative to sugar i have used.

Best substitute....
Great value for your money, however you do feel kinda bad about the amount of plastic waste left over from it. I’ve used erythritol for my tea/coffee for some time now, but recently I decided to stop as I noticed my body just didn’t like using it too much. Over the past two years I have gained weight and had bouts of bloating. I ran out of erythritol and after two months of not using it noticed my bloating and weight considerably reduce. My mood stabilised, I had more energy and just all round felt better physically. I’ve not used it since. I have in fact returned to using honey and sugar in very small quantities and drinking plenty of water. I don’t know if I will use erythritol again any time soon....maybe in the distant future I might. But I think my body may do the same thing again.
