In the end I bought it, and found I was right. However, I followed the advice of another reviewer and did the edges first, then astronaut and planets. There are various shades of dark blue that lead to the black, so if it's done in a good light it's possible to gradually fill in the different shades. Also the tiny stars are grouped in different shades, so they're helpful. It's a challenging jigsaw, but I do like a challenge, so I enjoyed doing it, with assistance from my husband. It's a reasonably good quality jigsaw, although the pieces don't lock together as well as some of the other brands I've had.
