I especially like the accompanied exercises -- the prominence of the dominant ...
I decided it was time to focus more purpose on my choral warm-ups and wanted something that employs kinesthetic components. At first I was taken aback by Jordan's references to "love" and "awe and wonder" in a textbook, but I am coming around to the realization that these ideals I espouse in my own life must transfer to all I do, including the rehearsal. This is a textbook, and one should not approach this with an a la carte, pick-and-choose mindset. I especially like the accompanied exercises -- the prominence of the dominant greatly aids intonation. My only complaint is references to other textbooks to fully learn and incorporate some aspects of the warm-up, most specifically references to breathing exercises. Still, this is a great tool for those who wish to instill more purpose in their warm-ups.

A must-have book
If you work with choirs, this is a must-have book. It includes a full selection (at least 25) of vocal warm-ups WITH accompaniment which makes singing warm-ups very fun and musical. It's a great tool and is full of good information from James Jordan who is a master in his field. You won't be disappointed in this book.

Pretty Thorough
This writer begins slowly and thoroughly with the philosophical underpinnings and outlines very methodically how he thinks things should be done. I am not done reading yet. But it is good.

best book out there
I just took a workshop with the author and went through the book page by page, without a doubt the best book out there on the subject matter it covers. All his books are great. You will hear improvements immediately. If you are serious about being a choir director you will devour this book and all his others. This book deals primarily with how to structure a warm up and why the warm up is so important. If the warm up is not done correctly you might as well not bother rehearsing.

Missing CD
The book, itself, contains very useful information. The front cover of the book, which matches the Amazon photo of the front cover, indicates that there is a CD Enclosed. However, there is no CD and there is not even a sleeve where a CD might have once been. I don't know if Amazon has just received a shipment that are missing the CDs, if the CDs are dropping out on the Amazon shelf, or if the publisher no longer provides the CD.
