This is so cute and I think it would be great for travel! Not only due to the magnetic pieces but also how lightweight it is. The game mechanisms are simple for kids to understand and I like the pieces, they’re foam with a magnet fully covering the back side so they’re light but will secure to the tin well. I will definitely be looking for more games from this line! Also, here are the rules for anyone wondering how the game is actually played before buying: RULES: Goal: Get the minnows across the finish line while avoiding the shark! • Youngest player begins as the minnow player. Place 6 minnows on any of the start arrows. • Next player places the shark on any one of the finish line spaces. • Minnow player moves first. Move one minnow forward or sideways one space. • Shark's turn to move. Shark can move forward, backward, sideways or diagonal. • If shark lands on the same space as a minnow, the minnow is eaten and removed. If a minnow makes it across the board to the finish line, it stays there. Score one point for each minnow that makes it to the finish line. • The round ends once all the minnows are eaten or make it to finish line. • Minnow player tallies their score. • Players rotate roles to continue play. Win: First player to score 10+ points wins. Player who started the game as the shark gets an extra turn to try to win or tie the game.

The game was fun enough, but the packaging is the best part. It is compact enough to put in a diaper bag or large jacket pocket and you can take it anywhere. The other reviews mention a lot of places this can go - waiting rooms, vehicles, at home, in a restaurant - but it really can go anywhere you need it to. That is the beauty of this product (Sharks & Minnows) and the other games offered by PlayMonster. I will be paying for some of their other games just to keep in our two vehicles, as we live 30 minutes from town (and really everything). This will make their rides and waits a lot shorter and a lot more bearable. I am thankful for this product!!!

Pros: The rules are written directly inside of the box, where they can be referred to quickly, and will not get lost. The pieces are large enough to easily push across the board. The pieces are soft and a little squishy, and will be easy to locate if a child happens to drop one on the floor. The game is really simple, and is rated for ages eight and up. I do think you could play with younger players, but you will need to watch them so that they do not eat the pieces. The pieces are magnetically attached to the board, so as the game gets jostled around, the pieces stay where you put them. The magnets on the back of the pieces are sufficiently strong to keep it attached to the board, but not so strong that they will scratch up the board as they are moved around. The case opens and closes easily. There are small divots in the one side to keep the case securely closed, while not in use. There are three hinges on the other side that function nicely. Even though this is too large to fit in my purse it is still a good travel size to keep in the car. We go out to eat once a year for the holidays, and my kids get bored, waiting for the food to arrive, I’m going to surprise them with this at the restaurant, so that they have something to do while waiting.

I was actually trying to teach some of my younger grandkids the sharks and minnows game the other day in the pool. So this was perfect because it’s the concept of the game but it’s easier to see it. Since we had played it in the pool, they got the basic concept. This magnetic game is small enough that you can easily take it on the go. My grandkids that sit next to each other in the car can easily play it because of the way it folds out. They can reach but move it between too since it’s magnetic. It’s a fun little game and it just gives them a small activity to do when we are on the go in the car. I know that they recommend ages six and up but one of my almost five year old granddaughters was playing this just fine. The concept is pretty straight forward and it just took a couple demos by me for them to catch on.

The metal case is durable, snaps securely closed and keeps all the parts of the game perfectly contained. The soft pieces are durable and the magnets cover the entire game pieces so there’s no chance of a magnet falling off. The game pieces and playing board are fun and cute, just what kids love. The rules are simple and printed right inside the box.. My six year old grandson caught on easily and we help the four year old to play the game. The metal box won’t crush or lose its shape like a cardboard box, nicely designed. Watch out for the shark!

The shark and minnows game is great for teaching little about taking turns! I have been playing it with my 3.5 year old and he is slowly grasping the concept of how to play. *All the pieces are magnetic so unless they end up traveling to the refrigerator, they are easy to keep track of because they stick to the game...which makes it perfect for keeping in a bag to take with and entertain while out and about! *The pieces are foam and the case is metal so it is all very durable for longterm play. *It teaches kids listening skills and following directions as the shark can move several directions while the minnows can only move 2 ways. Love this game!

My little girl loves this little game. At first I wasn't sure it would be a big hit, but the magnetic pieces make it awesome for the little ones as well as easy for the parents to keep up with.
