Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

As much as I liked the price of this book, the English translation was nearly incomprehensible. It was very stilted and the syntax was hard to muddle through. I tried to find the name of the translator and discovered that there was no title page and no information about the translator or the publisher. I will look for a newer translation. This one is archaic. Not worth the investment of time and money to return this. Sorry!

I had high hopes for this book, but the quality of the printing was so poor that it prevented me from really getting started on reading Meditations.I've included some photos of the print, where there are no page numbers, oddly spaced paragraphs with headings left without any writing until the next page. It's as if the printers just had one long file that they printed with some sort of paragraph orphan control in place.I will not buy another book manufactured by Amazon. This is the second book I've bought and the first book had the same problems (I thought it was just a 'one off' event for Amazon).

"You can't judge a book by its cover." Despite the handsome cover, this translation into English is turgid and confusing, the Glossary is an unsuccessful combination of several lists, and the Introduction is superficial. Does this edition represent a reuse of extra copies of the cover to 'publish" the work of another author, who curiously does not dare to put his name anywhere in the book? The only admission of responsibility for this edition is a very small imprint on the last page: Printed in Germany by Amazon Distribution GmbH Leipzig. ???
