Unique Reecom RA-1601 Weather Alert Radio External Antenna for Single, Double or Triple Pane Window Mounting

The antenna is very sturdy and worth the money. The antenna does have some directionality, as in you are able to point the antenna in the direction of the NOAA transmitter. I bought this antenna as the room I have one of my radios has 3 computers and causes too much interference to the signal. Using the antenna, I'm able to place it far away from the many noise making electronics and get a great sounding signal. I use the antenna with the Sangean CL-100 as I did not really care for the Reecom receiver's aesthetics for my room.

As soon as I plugged in the Reecom RA-1601 to my Midland WR400 I found that the incoming signal dropped significantly from that of the telescopic antenna that comes with the radio. It makes no sense to me.

I was able to get the base unit positioned close to a window which is line of sight to the NOAA transmitter and the antenna made absolutely no difference in quality.

I have this product before and it has done it job. I use it on midland brand weather radios in a tough terrain environment. Unless the antenna is positioned perfectly in tough terrain will it pick up the signal. In a high apartment it works well. But in little to no signal environment the antenna increases the gain some what.Conclusion: if you are in an area where the signal is noisy or hard to hear this antenna will improve that signal. If you live in an area with poor to no signal, this product is not for you. Buy a large antenna to mount outside, and run the cable inside for your weather radio.

I bought this to extend the range of my emergency alert radio and it does nothing. I could not get the local weather station and emergency alerts with just the cheap antenna that came with the radio. I thought if I got something like this it would pull it in for me. I placed it in the window so there is no interference and still nothing. I can't say it's the fault of the antenna, but my old radio (which died on me) got the alerts and everything else.

I didn't see where it made any difference between built in and this one. Maybe in some cases it could help but i doubt it. Save your money.
