How to assemble them...
The one thing I couldn't find anywhere was how exactly to assemble the lanterns, finally reasoned it out - 1- Carefully remove each lantern from cellophane bags, 2 lanterns per bag + 2 hanging hooks 2- Carefully holding top and bottom black sections slowly pull lantern open. They won't be full length yet. 3- The metal frame pieces are to be left whole, do not separate them as they don't thread through the holes in the top and bottom sections but the small bent notches just are meant to fit into the holes. 4- Insert from top larger black piece down into lantern, you may want to be sure the hole got punched through, if not use a pencil to finish that job and set the notches against the holes. 5- Grasp the end of the frame you just set into those holes and holding frame in place use other hand to slowly stretch the lantern a bit more toward the top of the frame, do it again and you will be about 1-1/2"- 2" from top of top notches on frame. Time to get brave and slowly push one side of frame down toward the hole, frame will bow out as it's supposed to do, it may try to move out of hole while you do the opposite with the other side of frame but in the end both should stay put and the frame inside lantern will be bowed out like it should be. Lantern will be at its full length. 6- Attach hook then feed light string that came with lamps into lantern after removing small tab of cardboard from battery control pack, hang lantern with control switch at top so you can shut them off or change the light pattern. Only one control box required me to add a small piece of cardboard along one side of the batteries to keep them straight, so try the lights first and 11 out of 12 ain't bad, easy fix. 7- Enjoy your lanterns! The lights are nice, just enough and not too bright. I recommend using them but if you want you can add your own type of bulbs, button cell batts are cheap and you'll only need 36 replacement batts just in case and I'll see how long they last turning them off each night. Couldn't find any lanterns that came with any type of lights other than these battery powered ones. They look great, subtle but effective for holiday lights and will leave 'em up for New Years Day. Just wanted something not the norm this year and these lanterns filled the bill nicely. I'll take and post pics once a better camera than my phone is charged up. The streaks in the pics aren't there in reality, you'll get more out of the batteries if on slow flash but amazingly they recover next day. So, I'm buying some fairy lights and usb plug converters, extension cord to enhance the look. I'm happy happy happy!

Nice item but half as many as you think
I'm modifying my previous review. The description is a bit deceptive the 48 piece order contains 24 lanterns which is specified in the fine print which I missed but the number I received was correct. Product quality is fine.

SO IN LOVE
I got these for my boyfriend as an anniversary present since we are remodeling his art studio, they were a surprise and he absolutely loves them. they look so good next to the bamboo trees i got him. super easy to assemble. we even got some e6000 glue and did a little diy to make the lanterns into towers and after we put the lights in them it completely transformed his work space!!

Bad Quality item
pretty medicore. clearly cheap and badly made: the red fabric was frayed in several areas, plastic hanging off of the rim parts. lights weren't very bright at all and kept going out. thank god for the other person who left a review about how to assemble them because that was not clear in the instructions. will be returning.

They are beautiful
These lanterns are beautiful! They take time to put together but made the party!!! Lots of compliments! They are a silky fabric not paper. They are also reusable!!! A excellent buy!

Tepenyaki Dinner Decor
We definitely nailed it with the Japanese theme party for a 70th birthday. These looked great hanging from the ceiling of our venue. However, some lights did not work, the strings to hang were tangled and took a while to undo them so we could hang them. But when it was lit and hanging above the Chefs, everyone was amazed with the decor and location of choice.
