Product seems to work as described, however seems possibly slower than the Lacie it replaced. Time Machine says its going to take 12 hrs to back up my 1tb internal hard drive. Pretty bad, if this is actually the time it will take. On the other hand, once it makes the initial backup, new backups in theory will take less time. We will see. I have a drive sled with conventional drives and a SATA interface... that may be the fix, and this may get returned. Ok, 1 hr later, and now the IMac says 3 hrs to go... which is not so bad. I will add another star. It actually completed in 2-3 hrs, which is good enough, raised to 4 stars. I will update this review as I learn how the product performs. Update: Product seems to work fine, very similar to the old Lacie it replaced, just more compact. I have it working with time machine on my Mac, and it all seems to function. I will update this review to 5 stars.

Your Website only allows me to say that everything is five-star quality, when within barely over a month, the product doesn't register in the d:drive, making it useless to use. But that is a flat-out lie One buys a d-drive for reliable storage. That is what this product does not offer. I bought this disk because I kept damaging external drives while traveling. I have nearly a terabyte of photos that I’ve taken in some wonderful places, and I can’t have my photo storage drive and my backup drive failing, despite being thrown in a backpack. LaCie has had a great reputation with disk drives (I bought a LaCie drive back in the late 1980s for a Mac, and it lasted for years). Here’s what I like about this drive: • It’s USB-C, which means no dongle for my MacBook Pro. • Well built, sturdy, tough. • It’s Orange. OK, that may not matter to anyone, but I went to Syracuse University, so orange is important. • Product appears very robust and will protect my data. Just a warning – because it’s built to be sturdy it’s not as small as other external disk drives. That’s the trade off.

Could give faster transfer time but a good value for the size of the drive.

This is my second one. I purchased this one to JUST hold Genealogy files, have another for all my other files. Purchased first one about 2 years ago. I use both with a Macbook. I probably overbought what I needed for 2nd one but I liked 1st one so much, I just went with it. I have a Seagate as an add'l backup as well. These seem "faster" to work from, when using for Genealogy, all my files are on this drive, don't keep them on computer. They open just as fast as files on computer. They were both plug in and go from the start - liked that. I'm not a techie. Wish cords were a little "tighter" can pull out easy if you move it. I cut a little smidge of the orange case away near the plug and that helped. I use BackBlaze, no problem with back-up there or on Mac Time Machine either.

I’ve used Lacie drives and they’ve always been dependable for me. These small and rugged hard drives are great for large storage with minimal physical space taken up.

I had bought this drive as my previous one (different brand) ran out of storage. I thought this would be extremely reliable as my work used them as an external drive. After less than a year of usage with only half of the storage being used, this drive fails to connect to my laptop and pop up. I am very careful and cautious of my equipment and is a result of no foul play or misuse (I bought a separate case to keep the drive away from debri/dust, and as a protectant). Not only is this extremely disappointing but the same thing is happening to the drives at work. To me, this doesn't seem to be at fault of the individual drives, but the model in general. It was great it in the time in which it worked, but less than a year of use and having issues is upsetting and a waste of money. I have had previous drives that have lasted me years and years with no issues. Luckily I was able to back up a lot of my information so I am not upset about any loss of information, but wanted to warn others about this model!! You can find cheaper and more reliable pieces of equipment out there.
