Extensive Research Done
I had a 5 ton Trane HVAC heat pump installed barely 5 years ago… in the last two years of operating, this unit starting giving a musty smell out of the ducts…issues with cooling, running constantly, not draining properly… I live in Florida and my service people would come and do basic checks every year, but never cleaned the actual A coils or the big condenser outside… finally after the smell worsened, I decided to YouTube how to clean… upon opening my unit, I found LOADS OF MOLD, algae, my insulation on the inside of the housing was soaked and deteriorating… the A coils were a bit dirty, but not bad for 5 years with 9 dogs in the house… I change my intake filters every 4 weeks and keep my condensation line cleaned as well… the problem was no p trap on my draw thru negative pressure unit… I was told I did not need one… after researching extensively, YES YOU DO….!!!! I ordered this u trap because it was recommended by old school AC techs, and they were right… my daughter and me installed the u trap just outside of the air handler within minutes, and it started pouring water out quicker than we could get the other side connected… we had to shut the system down to finish installing… it has been installed for almost one week… my humidity within the house has maintained at 45-48, prior it was 55-60 and I had to run a 3000 sq ft dehumidifier… the musty smell is almost nonexistent and the seer I am getting is 18-20 and the unit is rated 14… it does not run as often and it is cycling off as it should… water now drips constantly when unit is running from outside pipe instead of one big draining after blower turned off… I cleaned the unit from top to bottom including coils, blower, inside of housing, and air ducts… I can see if the pipe is clogged, or dry with this u trap… thank you to the many OG HVAC gentlemen who informed me of what the problem was via YouTube and recommending this u trap….!!!!

Nice, simple condensate handler
My original condensate trap died and I used this to replace it. It only took a little "refactoring" to install it. Really, it wasn't hard at all. I was about to call an HVAC person to do the work, but I'm sure I'd end up paying but $ for a relatively simple task.I like the fact you can see through the tubes. It has nifty access points in three spots. Along with the brush they give you, it will be easy to keep things clean. Highly recommended.

Clear pipe to see gunk
I replaced my old U shape condensate pipe trap from drain condenser and installed this clear one . Just a simple DYI. Earlier I have backup of gunk occurs every start if season and no way to know what was the blocker . With this clear pipe install I can see any gunk trap that block the water from draining and overflow the basement floor . Twice trouble not anymore with this

Whether you're an HVAC pro or not, this is a really good idea.
Some states require these inline traps on the AC overflow line, and some don't. There are at least 2 reasons (imo) to have one- they allow you to actually see that the water can flow freely away from your overflow pan (it's really common for them to get clogged), AND it prevents any harmful gases (or just smells) to creep back in the overflow line when there's no water in it. Just make sure to have a little bit of angle going towards the out direction. It already has a slight height difference, but angling will help (not much, just a few degrees).

Exactly what it is supposed to do.
Exactly what it is supposed to do. Pretty straightforward. HVAC tech said he's never seen one and likes the idea. He'll be installing this in other houses.
