Lots of red herrings in this one
Burger even comments on that. Great courtroom scene early with Perry defending a client on a charge a little out of his line but it is one of the more enjoyable cross examinations. The main event is Perry vs Burger on a murder case that only tangentially involves the fiery fingers. But Perry has a nice sojourn through New Orleans and there are some scenes were Perry is very frank with witnesses and he manages to get Paul to break a number of laws to get a conversation on phonograph. Entertaining but not one of the better ones

Great courtroom dialogue
I love all the Erle Stanley Gardner mysteries and am glad he was such a popular and prolific author. Each succeeding mystery shows new and fascinating facets of his characters personalities. The courtroom dialogue in this one is outstanding!

The Fiery Fingers
I fully enjoyed reading this story. There were so many suspects that you needed to look before you pick the guilty person. Right down to the very end when Perry Mason revealed the true facts and who the killer was.

Pure drama from start to finish.
Looking for a quiet, lazy read is not this story. Never had a story started fast and finish with a flash like a photographers flash picture. Pure Gardner.

Not up to expectations
This book did not meet expectations in either plot or characterization. The story was particularly contrived and repetitious and the murderer was obvious from the start. Perry goes flying all over the place for no good reason and most scenes were awkward. Worse, the end was especially lame and disappointing.

love it
I know that a lot of people is not a big fan of Perry Mason because this series focuses more on the court part than other detective novels. But I am a really big fan of this series. I got all the books of Perry Mason and love each of them.

Good book
Better then the show. This one tells a better story then the show, and the nurse isn't the one who might have done it. But no spoilers.

A Perry Mason classic
If you like Perry Mason you’ll love this one.All the usual characters, the out of court detecting, the court room drama, Perry Mason in a seemingly hopeless position, Paul Drake sailing close to the wind and the climax. It’s solid plot from cover to cover without the fill and mostly irrelevant sub-plots that many modern novels have. It’s what fans have come to expect and this doesn’t disappoint.

Great read
Liked the fast pace and great dialogue. Gardner spins a story that keeps you on the edge and not wanting the story to end.
