The Ethnological approach to telling the story through an emic perspective gives insight into the actual practices of Vodou: its practices and practitioners. The history behind the religion was surprising to say the least. A must read.

it's a good book , it's about her life story , but i was more looking for something that would show and explain me in details about vodou and how it works .

I had to buy this ethnography for a sociology class and do a presentation on it. I can't say I read much of it but it had an interesting beginning. Unless you're interested in Vodou you probably wouldn't want to read this. It can get confusing because the author switches back and forth between the present and past.
