I got a new pair of DMs to replace my well-worn 12-year-old pair of DMs, and man ... I forgot how insanely uncomfortable new DMs could be. After a month, they just refused to break in, and I was tired of justifying the pain, so I cast out for a new pair of boots that looked as good as DMs without the pain. So far, these are doing the trick. They look good, and the side zipper is a thing I never knew I needed until I had it. They are lighter than I am used to with DMs, but they still seem durable enough for the price. They are not perfect though: Con: I ordered a size 9.5, the boot says 9.5, but it's the roomiest 9.5 I've had in my 50+ years. In other words, the size, at least for the vegan boot, is not 100% accurate. I considered returning these and sizing down to 9, but really, it's not a huge deal, just not as snug as I'm used to. Con: The tongue is thick like a pair of snow boots, and the loop added to it means the cuffs of my jeans sometimes wind up behind the tongue.
