There is a sort of rectangular piece on the bottom of the mouse. If you check there is a small dip in the surface on one side. Press up in the dip and the rectangular piece will pop up. Take the old battery out and place a new on in with the same orientation -- which end is in the direction to the front and the end toward the back of mouse. Put the rectangular piece back and the battery is changed.

Not sure why, must've looked at too many. i thought this had adjustable dpi. moves too fast for good control of video games. am i missing somethin?

Just go to your mouse settings There you can fine tune the speed of your mouse.
