Pflueger President Spinning Fishing Reel

Great reel. It’s lightweight and feels durable. Cranking is smooth and so is the drag. Casting is smooth with braid. I wish this did have a bit more line capacity, but I recognize this is advertised as a primarily freshwater reel. I’ve given this as gift for saltwater fishing. Don’t hesitate to purchase if you can snag it for under $50.

After reading rave reviews on multiple websites, I finally pulled the trigger on this one. I'll tell you what... I'm glad I did. I went with the 25 over the 20 for the additional line capacity. I threw it on a 7' Ultralight TFO Trout Panfish Rod with 10lb braid, and HOLY MOLY is this an awesome reel!! Obviously I'm using it for Trout, and I honestly don't think you can get a better reel for the money. Dollar for dollar, this is it. This Pflueger President reel is a big money reel at a low end price. For starters, the thing looks sharp! Looks aren't really as important to me as functionality, but I had to mention the craftsmanship. It's gorgeous! It is very light weight as well, and built with quality parts. This thing is durable, quiet, smooth, and handles everything I throw at it. Caught five fish my first day out, and they came in smooth as silk. I had a feeling I would like it when I ordered it. As I mentioned before, I had read multiple reviews about it. However, it was hard to believe it was actually that good for the price. It just IS, and I did not expect the quality and performance that I'm getting out of this! I have about 15 rod and reel combos, and this is one of the favorites now. Do yourself a favor and just buy it... It's kinda feels like finding $100 laying on the ground. It's that good in my opinion!

Excipient smooth reel

I have been using Pflueger President reels (of various models and versions) for close to 20 years. They've all held up well for me, required very little to no maintenance (other than keeping them clean and not left outside continuously exposed to the weather). At their LIST PRICE they are a bargain for what you get - a reliable, reasonable weighted reel, that perform well and does so consistently. Obviously, at their price, they are NOT the best spinning reel one can buy. My Shimano Stratic's and Shimano Vanfords are certainly superior reels - but also cost three times as much! Whether they perform three times better than the Pfluege President model - the answer is a resounding NO, not three times better or even two times better. For somebody just getting into fishing but who wants a reliable, decent quality reel that is going to last and not disappoint, I can recommend these most highly. My only complaint with the reels is that they used to come with a spare spool - which was great as it allowed one to have 2 spools with different line on each, for fast and easy change-outs. My recommendation to Pflueger is to market spare spools (or of course, better yet to include a spare one in the box). Secondly, I would like to see Pflueger indicate on the reel the size reel that it is, in an easy to see and visible location. Since I have multiples of these reels in many different sizes, this would be very helpful. Especially for fishing trips when rods/reels are broken down for transport - it helps to avoid putting the wrong sized reel onto a rod - only to realize this after getting on the water. Because the reels themselves, physically are not too different in physical size (at least at the 3000 and below size levels), this would be very helpful and appreciated (I am assuming by others as well). But to end this, YES, I highly recommend these reels. They punch way above their LIST price point. If you find them on sale, by them in multiples!

I'd purchased this reel a few months ago to go on my newest rod and it has been an absolute dream! The reel arrived in some packaging I found quite curious. No labeled box, No branding, just plastic. Though there wasn't much in the way of protection for the product itself, the one I received had no damage at all. There was a couple of options for packaging preference, though, and I'm sure the option I did not choose arrives in a fancy branded bit of plastic with all the product details. I worried I may have had to tear the reel apart and clean/oil it before first use but the action on the reel was smooth and clean as could be! As for durability, this thing rocks. It's been through some tough situations being dropped/set on and in some tough places and shows very little in the way of wear. Even through all of this it remains in perfect working order. And let's be honest. This reel is gorgeous! All in all it's a well-made piece of equipment that any angler would be proud to have in their arsenal.

This reel is much smaller than a normal 2500 size reel but this reel is amazing. Smooth as butter. I wish I had bought two for the price I paid I fit 150 yards of 8lb braid on this little beast.

Great value, quality fishing reel at a great price, I have owned many of them and they just get better and cheaper every model.
