Pool chemistry is important and it’s crucial to have a test kit that accurately measures the levels. There are very good expensive test kits that measure free chlorine but on a day to day basis this is perfect for ph, chlorine, alkalinity and I check the cya about once a month. I like I can buy refills of the reagents. This is very easy to use as well.

It has reagent for over 50 chlorine/pH tests. Didn’t use all the Alkalinity or total Calcium hardness reagent but will not test even 40 times if you’re in normal range. That’s for instance because you use five drops for the calcium reagent but then over 20 drops to get to the 200 range of the titrant which is the low end of the normal range. I find the chlorine indicator to read high but once you learn that it reads about twice as high, as what it really is, as tested by Leslies, it’s still valuable. The pH is probably within .1 and so more accurate. There is only enough reagent to test the CYA level twice, and it says that on the bottles though that’s not disclosed in the product advertisement. This level is very important to help reduce the sun burning off your chlorine content in the water. Fortunately Leslie‘s tests for free and I go there about once a week and have done so about 15 times to develop the analysis I present above. I gave it four stars, but was tempted to give three on all the above, but stuck with four mostly because I could find replacement reagent for the chlorine and the pH for a really reasonable prices on Amazon, and sometimes not too bad in a local hardware store. I bought a whole second kit as a back up in case the non-OEM reagents didn’t work well, but they do. It says it does six tests, but even including the CYA test for which it’ll only do that twice, I find that it does only five, though the test for chlorine and bromine is the same and they count that twice. The total alkalinity test is somewhat close, usually reading, low, and the total calcium hardness test is somewhat accurate at higher ranges, but not very accurate when you are low, it will read higher than you actually are. For daily testing for chlorine and pH, which in my experience are by far the most important to prevent an algae bloom, it works fairly well given the above knowledge from comparing my kit test with what Leslie‘s gets. Fairly, I found Leslie‘s tests, especially on the total calcium hardness, and the presence of phosphates to be very variable though it seems pretty accurate on the metals test. Overall, kudos to Leslie‘s for providing the service and the information, though not as precise and consistent as they say, but is extremely valuable .

Buy this reliable test kit every year. I wouldn’t recommend using the drops past a year due to expiration. The stabilizer drops allow for maybe two tests so you may have to purchase more separately if you’re like me and test CYA every time you vacuum to waste. Overall, I find these tests WAY more reliable and accurate than test strips.

We started using the strips and couldn't ever get our chemicals straight. After taking a water sample from the pool into a local pool store they advised us to use one of these. Since our chemicals have been perfect. It's easy to test, easy to calculate, easy to read. I'll def be reordering every year bc they expire after a year. Def recommend to anyone needing this type of tester. :)
