Great Vietnamese style cup!
I’ve been messing around with Vietnamese style coffee lately and have been looking for some better beans than Cafe du Monde. I believe I have finally arrived at my destination. This coffee arrived quickly and is obviously super fresh. (Huge bloom when I brew it.) The beans are roasted a bit lighter than French roast; no expressed oils. I personally think that’s the darkest ideal roast level so I’m very happy there. Beans are fairly low on aroma. Bit of chocolate and the graham cracker note mentioned on the bag. I brewed them 12:1 using my V60 Switch, with a 50% initial dose of water, followed by a 3 minute rest, and then the rest of the water added after draining that first dose. This creates a strong short cup, similar (I hope) to the output from a phin. Aroma is still a touch subdued in the cup but I think the overall flavor is great. Chocolate, some tobacco/leather, more of those graham notes. Combined with condensed milk, a delicious treat. To be clear, this coffee tastes quite a bit cleaner than Cafe du Monde. If you love the chicory flavor you may be disappointed here. But I really like this one! Enjoy! Update: watch out for this stuff; it’s strongly caffeinated! I usually drink two cups of arabica each morning, each brewed with 23g of beans. One 16g cup of this stuff feels far more powerful than both of those combined.

Nguyen Coffee Supply, good stuff!
great roast-aroma coffee, mild and smooth, offsets the caffiene content and strength, very good, a litle ont he high side of the dollar but worth it.

Quick fix
Still can taste the coffee with cream and sugar. A little treat for those instant coffee drinkers.

It's a different flavor and takes getting used to. But it's pretty yummy
CoWorker asked if I'd tried Vietnamese coffee and I said "no". He said it's reported to be higher in caffeine but richer in flavor. I don't know about the caffeine, but the flavor is definitely different. It takes a minute; as a long-time coffee drinker, it is unexpected. It's earthier, deeper, more ... chocolatey is what my brain suggests. It's good.

Definitely worth a try
Definitely worth a try just to see what robusta beans are all about. I brewed it with an Aeropress, drank it black, and really enjoyed the distinctive flavor. The package says it has twice the caffeine of regular beans, so you might want to consider this before making it your regular brew. I didn't try any of those Vietnamese coffee drinks that use sweetened condensed milk, but did try some of the ground beans on vanilla ice cream and that was really nice.

Not what I expected
I hate to write these type of reviews because I want to support my peeps. When I initially open the bag I thought ok this smells good. I then took some of the beans to grind and after grinding the beans didn’t smell right, they were dry and light brown, like the beans were old. So decided to make a cup. It was light and tasted watered down. No flavor, I was expecting a smooth, strong, bold taste like the Vietnamese coffees I grew up with. Now this has me questioning if the distributor on Amazon is an actual Nguyen Coffee Supply Rep? I am a Vietnamese person and I would hope that this Vietnamese isn’t selling old, dried up coffee beans to their customers.

Good Coffee.
The beans were a little to light for me. Needs to be a darker roast. Also the coffee expiration is to short on time, 2 mos from time of received. Not strong like my moka from Vietnam, but good enough.

Outstanding multi-use coffee
I love Dalat from Nguyen Coffee. I originally bought it to use in a phin filter for traditional vietnamese coffee with condensed milk. While this isn't my favorite roast for that purpose (I still prefer robusta there), this roast has become one of my favorites for regular drip and pour-over brewing. I love the medium-dark roast with the rich, fruity aroma of arabica beans. There's something slightly different about the flavor compared to south American or African coffees. The quality and freshness are on par with many of the best "specialty" brands, but there's none of the harshness typical of bright, fruity coffees from other regions. It's become one of my go-to coffees for daily use. And yes, I'm a coffee snob. Just try it.
