AN AMAZING GUITAR!!!
I did a lot of research before buying this 6 string Yamaha L-series Transacoustic. I've been playing since 1966 and have played some really cheap guitars, some really awesome, and some really difficult to play guitars. I've been primarily a 12 string picker and a melody rhythm player for the better part of the 54 years I've been playing. The 12 string that I presently perform with is a Yamaha L-series dreadnaught with rosewood back and sides that I also purchased without ever playing before hand. Like that 12 string, this L-series transacoustic came out of the box with amazing action, fast tuning, stayed tuned after a few minutes of warm up. I didn't really buy it for the transacoustic abilities but that's an added bonus when I'm practicing or writing. With or without the transacoustic effects (reverb and chorus and volume without being plugged in), this guitar has amazingly beautiful full tone! I use a Fishman amp when performing and the pairing of the two is an incredible sound. The transacoustic effects of the guitar cut off automatically when you plug in as far as I can tell. I have built in stereo chorus and reverb in my Fishman that work excellently with this Yamaha! Both this 6 string and my 3 year old 12 string have excellent action making playing almost effortless. I have read several comments that said the player had to have the transacoustic set up by a guitar tech but that is not my experience. Granted I've been playing, 12 strings for years, some with very difficult neck action, high string setting or narrow necks or both, that have conditioned my hand strength, but this Transacoustic is still really amazing. One lead player that I often play gigs with played it and he loved the set up! Yamaha really did this one right! AN AMAZING GUITAR! It got me back to playing 6 string again and rediscovering how fun playing guitar really is!

This is a great guitar, and I am glad the price got cut from $1600, as $1000 seems like a just right price. When initially playing this guitar I was a bit uncomfortable. I was rather out of practice, and maybe just need to work blisters in again, but after a week or two of playing on and off, it feels like a good friend. I haven't solidly decided on the type of string to use yet, as the harmonic capabilities with the guitar is FANTASTIC even without the magnet activated, so it seems like having lighter strings would be a good option, but it also plays like a jumbo guitar, so heavy strings would work well. I think this guitar is versatile and can be used in just about any way a player would want: classical, heavy, or light. I guess what I am trying to say: it is VERY customizable. Also to note, the pick guard is very well placed, and non-invasive while playing or even looking at it. I have not worried about damage. It stays in tune very well so far.

Very good but too big and heavy for my taste
I thought that it would be the one but I was disappointed. I had a FS830 and I was looking for a transacoustic body. While the sound is pretty good, the weight and bigger size than my 830 did not appeal to me. I ended up buying a FS-TA which is an amazing piece of guitar with the same trans feature but a smaller size and much less weight. Love it.

Don't hesitate, this is an incredible guitar.
I bought this having only played the FG-TA model and am so happy I went with the L-series. Plays beautifully with or without the effects and the effects add SO much texture to the music, making everything sound bigger and makes me sound much more competent than I actually am :) Comes with a great soft-shell case that is more somewhere between hard and soft-shell with the padding within. I thought I'd have to get a setup before being able to truly enjoy playing it, but it arrived in an extremely playable condition that is easier to barre than my Martin of a similar price range. I was nervous to order this online and play sight unseen, but could not be happier with the playability, sound and condition the guitar arrived in. It's like I'm playing a lot of songs for the first time again due to how incredible this guitar is and it has refueled my passion.

Great guitar if you can afford it
An update after 3 years: it sounds way better than any other acoustic any of my friends have, including more expensive ones. What I love about it is that it screams “play on me” every day and keeps me engaged with it daily. Original review. Fantastic sound even without the “electric” part, and great option to have the built-in trans-acoustic effect. I am getting back into playing guitar. Didn’t play since my teens. Such a high quality instrument keep me motivated unlike the old guitar. So overall highly recommend if you have money. Otherwise, I think the Yamaha without the electronics will sounds almost the same and will cost three times cheaper.

Dreadnought vs Concert body
This guitar sounds extremely good and the reverb is okay but it is somewhat audible and the chorus is awesome. I would suggest getting the dreadnought body version of this guitar because the concert body seems to like to cut blood flow in my arms since the width is smaller than a "normal-sized" acoustic guitar. Overall, great guitar, feels, sounds, and the effect are great!!

YAMAHA LSTA is the best guitar for the money!
Getting back into guitar after 20 years and I decided to go to steel strings versus my old nylon strings. This guitar does not disappoint but rather delights! The added feature of the trans acoustic is a super way to emphasize the sound without electricity and has me playing for hours. I chose the LSTA instead of the FSTA since it is all solid wood, top bottom and sides versus laminate bottom and sides on the FSTA. Also it did include a gig bag case whereas the FSTA does not. Other reviews mention the action being high but I don’t find it too high and of course that is easily adjusted if need be. Definitely a good decision to purchase the LSTA and years of enjoyment to come!
