CORBETT PAPERS, THE: Biographical, Legal, & Contextual Material on the Life & Career of Jim Corbett of Kumaon

Recommended only for ardent Corbett fans
Keeping in mind that there is very little that is " new" to the ardent Corbett reader/fan/follower - the compilation for the first time -includes his sister Maggie's recollections and the reproduction of the " Jungle Stories " as JC first published as a limited edition for his friends - is fascinating ( just a few words & spellings differ) as is the character insight ( of M R Kala) of his friends Ibbotson & Wynhdam . Also reproduced in parts are Jim's letters while hunting to his sister, especially his fresh (3hrs old) recollection of the hunt of the Chowgarh tigress.( I tend to agree with his description of the Tigress ear flattening out at first sight- a classic reaction of most cats). For added measure there is reproduction of a book from Jim's half brother- published in 1899 - showing how terrible a story teller an author can be ! To round off the last will and testament of Jim Corbett is also included. A very nice addition to the library.

the nuts and bolts and peeps into the great man's life
loved getting my hands on some of these heard of but not read extracts... especially maggie's retelling of the amazing family connections and that very interesting to hack lawyers will, the love for Kumaon and so much more. Wonderful add for all Raj Nostalgia, wilderness, hunting, conservation and all things Corbett enthusiasts.

Something more for Corbett fans
This here is a great addition to Corbett-ian lore. Diehard fans of Carpet Sahib will appreciate this book edited by Shah and Alter. Of particular intrigue are the chapter(s) from a book by Charles Doyle (Corbett's half-brother) and the hunter-conservationist's last will and testament. I rather fancied Mr Shah's manner of narration - the language is crisp and he knows how much information to provide and the length of that information, that is, where to commence and stop.

Not so interesting
The book is not very interesting and for people who have no idea about the subject, may find it a bit boring.
