The display is very clear, with or without the light, and the temperature reading is spot on. Absolutely well worth the $5. I really don’t see why you would go and spend $10+ on any other thermometer.HOWEVERIf you buy this, do not be an idiot, like me.It’s $5. The body is plastic. Don’t spend $5 and expect some sort of titanium, military grade material. The part that goes into the food, of course, is metal. Obviously. But the body is still plastic. Remember that. What happens to plastic when it gets hot? It melts. If you are going to take the temperature of food while it is still cooking, remember that. I didn’t. I left it in my chicken breast, waiting on the temperature reaching 165F. The body melted. Now the metal rod wiggles all over the place, and occasionally falls out. Yet, amazingly, it still works. Perfectly.
