Best Shower Radio On The Market
I wanted to have a radio that is waterproof with good sound quality and strong reception so I can listen to my favorite radio station while in the shower. I am really happy to have found this product. The sound level is loud enough that you can hear very clearly with your shower running. The sound quality is also excellent since Sangean always has the best reception level. The LCD screen is bright enough and shows the radio station number clearly. The tuning ability is also very easy to use since it's digital, and you also get 5 preset stations that you can set your favorite ones. The look is sleek and modern, with very small footprint. It's lightweight so you can carry it with you everywhere you go. Sangean is basically the Apple brand in the radio industry. So if you want quality and an excellent user experience, then go with this brand. Lastly, I had some questions about their products because I also wanted to purchase a radio alarm clock, so I called their office in California. But the technician Jimmy was very rude and seemed to be irritated. Within a few minutes it sounded like he wants to hang up the phone. Since I didn't get the help I needed, I called their headquarter office instead in Taiwan, and the staff there were very polite and patient. They helped to answer all of my questions and they were the reason why I was able to find another model from Sangean that has the alarm clock features that I wanted. So thanks to those staff in the Taiwan office.

A Very Good Shower Radio
I had a Sony Shower Tunes (?) radio for a ridiculous amount of time - like 20+ years. Worked good, display easy to see, light battery use. Finally it gave up, and I wanted a replacement - the Sangean seemed to be the best option. Good: Well-made, actually a tad better sound and reception over the Sony, and seems very sturdy. Easy to set everything. Not so good: Display is hard to see due to way it hangs on shower head arm (versus how the Sony hung). Not terrible but numbers (time or station ID) are thin versus the bolder LCD numbers on the Sony. This unit cost something like 3x-4x what the Sony unit cost back in late 1990’s. I expect it will last a long time. It fills a void for me but nothing that blows my skirt up.

Fantastic, High Quality Radio
I have bought many things over the year that I probably didn't really need or use. I have to say I absolutely love this thing, and might be a second for my other bathroom. It's my first Sangean radio, and have to say i'm impressed with this brand. Some comments: Pros: 1. Really solid build quality. This device is larger than I expected and quite heavy. Plastic housing is thick and seems to be of high quality. 2. Excellent sound quality - very full, clear and well-rounded for a single, moderately sized speaker. Not tinny at all. I have my volume on "20" while I'm taking a shower, and it's plenty loud. 3. Uses the large "D" cell batteries (2), which at first seems a but off-putting, but they seem to last a long time. 4. Buttons are of perfect size and tactile feel; easy to operate. 5. Display is clear and shows the clock (when off) and battery life remaining. 6. Extendable wire antenna - I live in a city and find it gets my stations clearly without having to extend it, but your experience may differ. 7. It looks nice. Has rubber feet so it can sit with no problem on your sink or tub, or you can hang it in your shower with the included strap. Cons: 1. The WX Alert button's operation is awkward. It's easily pressed by accident, and to get back to the station you were listening to, you have to press it a second time, press the power button to turn the radio back on, and press the Band button to cycle back to where your preset is. The WX Button and Power button are the same size and both on the front of the radio. 2. Rechargeable batteries would be nice - but minor gripe. 3. Don't like having to pay extra for an AC to DC power brick.

Great design and performance (it's a Sangean)
Just like other Sangean radios, this Sangean waterproof shower radio was no disappointment. The design of this radio is great. The reception is better than some of my other portable radios. The large speaker provides a rich, clear sound. The use of 2 D-cells provides both substantial volume and long battery life. The layout of the controls and use of the controls all makes good sense. The setup instructions were clear and easy to follow. A sleep timer will play the radio for up to 60 minutes before auto shutoff. A nap timer can be set for up to 120 minutes. When that time expires, a tone will gently wake you. The tone starts at a low volume level and gradually increases until you press a button (or 3 minutes have expired, whichever comes first). Because this was designed as a shower radio, the FM antenna is a wire that hangs out of the bottom of the radio (but can be stored in a storage compartment). Since this radio is waterproof, I intend to use it outdoors like on picnics where I might encounter rain showers. I didn't realize exactly how large it was until I opened the box. Please see the photo which shows it next to a Sony portable radio powered by a 9-volt battery.

Solidly built
In a world of super cheap, lowest common denominator consumer electronics, this thing is a breath of fresh air. Let's jump in. Pros: -Solid, thick plastic construction, with rubber gaskets, and it's heavy, doesn't feel cheap at all. Even the packaging it ships in feels well-made. -Good reception on all bands, including AM and WX, one of the best-receiving radios I have used. It picks up marginal FM stations my other radios cannot. Adjusting the pigtail antenna makes this easier. -Simple controls, with easy-to-setup presets. Clock, alarm, sleep timer, weather alert mode, all good. -External power option to avoid running batteries down (used outside the shower, of course) -Runs on common D cell batteries. No stupid USB charging, no worries about proprietary cells that wear out after 2 years with no replacement to be found. Basic D cells, the way it should be. Cons: -No headphone jack or Bluetooth connectivity. Not really needed for a shower radio, but nice when using it outside the shower. -The supplied nylon strap is fine, but may be the weak link in the future if it gets dry rotted. The attachment points, however, are strong and may allow you to attach a stronger strap or chain if desired. -The external power wall wart has to be purchased separately if you really want one. It easily handles getting splashed on with water, but I'm not sure I'd deliberately submerge it in a tub or pool. I hang it from a towel hook in the bathroom and always wipe it down when I'm done. I don't know if it can get moldy, but I figure wiping it down keeps me from learning the hard way. I like this thing so much I'm considering buying a second one to use in another room in my house. It also feels like it's the kind of thing that is too nice to stay in production, so maybe get an extra for good measure. I can remember the 80s when you could buy decent electronics that were affordable and well-made, this seems like a throwback to that era. I would like to see a non-shower version of this radio with more external interface options, such as a headphone jack and an external antenna connection. The electronic guts are a solid platform for a whole line of radios. I recommend this radio.

HORRIBLY designed weather alert radio
MAJOR design flaws. 1) Turning weather alerting on / off requires a slight touch to a button. The button is located in the the vertical middle of the radio - exactly where a person's thumb rests when handling the radio. Turning the weather alert on/off results in no beep. This is such poor design. They could have easily required a long pause bet 2) You can either use the radio or monitor for weather alerts. You cant do both. This means if you are listening to the radio and a tornado is coming - you will not be notified. 3) The necessary steps to switch between weather alert / radio mode are terrible. To turn on the radio, you must push the power button even though the unit is obviously already turned on. If you "turn on" the unit when it's in weather alert mode - nothing happens. First, you have to go to the other side of the unit and turn off Weather Alerts. Then you can go to the other side of the unit to "turn on" the radio. The correct design would have been a toggle switch - either off, weather alert, or radio. 4) SAME functionality is NOT supported. This is a huge deal. SAME allows users to limit alerts to a list of counties or even to certain types of watches. The alerting system isn't only about weather. It also includes BLUE Alerts and Amber Alerts both of which are needlessly overused, extremely frequent, and thus extremely annoying. This results in people completely disabling their "weather alert" radio. There are also alerts for when the alert system is being tested - which is once every week and once every month. Don't know how this product handles those. 5) Doesn't monitor all weather channels for weather alerts. This means the user must find the correct weather channel to monitor which makes the radio useless for someone traveling across the country. 6) Useless for listening to music. The sound is nowhere near as crisp as other music devices. No bluetooth connectivity. Why would anyone buy this to listen to music? 8) It's ridiculously large. WAY too large. Having batteries makes it portable. Being huge makes it to huge to carry around. 9) The clock doesn't allow military time. Small detail to many. Big detail to others. More so since it's a ridiculously simple feature to implement. More difficult to remove the feature than to include. Mind boggling why someone would go out of their way to remove a feature which has been standard on clocks for over 100+ years. 10) The unit can't be turned off. It's either a radio, weather alert or a clock. No one is buying this huge thing to be a clock. OTHER: Battery life When being used as a radio, it may may run up to 72 hours straight ( 3 days straight ). In weather alert mode - it uses 2249 Kwh at 120 volts AC. That seems to mean a really long time. Why is it so large? Sangean wrapped the internals from its other radios with a high quality, IP67 case. IP67 Sangean filled the case with 2 D batteries. Simply put - this thing is so large, cause Sangean was being lazy. Good design features: 1) Real, tactile buttons 2) No features hidden behind menus like Sangean's other radios 3) Setting the clock is simple 4) Battery 4) Exterior shell is smooth and easy to wipe down. If cleaning useless bricks is 5) IP67 - means dust-tight and provides protection against immersion in water up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. Does anyone listen to the radio anymore? Does anyone in the shower need to change radio stations? The more I think about it, this product's design makes it basically useless. Seems to me that whoever owns Sangean is attempting to do as little as possible as cheaply as possible relying solely upon its past reputation.

Feels bigger than the picture.
Received the radio, and managed to set it up quickly with not much issues. The product feels bigger than the picture, but feels sturdy as well. The sound quality is great, and goes well with the bathroom's acoustics. Uses the BIG Type D batteries. =)

A little pricey but totally worth the money.
A little pricey but totally worth the money. I have bought several $20.00 dollar shower radios over the years. They were all hard to tune and sounded like crap. I then went the bluetooth shower speaker route, that was a pain setting it up every shower. I finally broke down spent the $ and I LOVE this radio. Easy to set up, VERY easy to tune, got to finally use some of the "D" batteries I have had for years, it has a built in clock, AND it sounds GREAT!! Excellent speaker. I highly recommend this Radio.

Strong water resistant shower radio
This is not a compact radio! Much bigger and heavier than expected. It has good reception and excellent sound. Worth noting the weather alert feature will not work in Australia. Would prefer a non woven strap as it may end up going mouldy in the damp of the shower, but will have to wait and find out
