Easy to store Review: Review of (PSG6066/26) 600g iron - Before purchasing this I owned the (GC7840/26) model which is still available for £99.99 and whilst it was very good and performed faultlessly for 4 years, it wasn't quite cutting it so I treated myself to an upgrade with this one. I chose this model as it seems to offer more bang for your buck than the more expensive but older variations. It also looks super cool in the navy and gold livery. Anyway it came the next day, very well packed complete with de-calc tray and instruction book though I didn't really need that as it is very easy to use. The water reservoir is easily removable for easy filling under the tap and slots nicely back in before powering up. One fill will last a long time, I certainly won't be refilling it mid-session. If you are concerned about the size and weight of the unit, don't be as it can go on the floor and you still have plenty of lead to work with without over-stretching it. No need to buy a special board. Once powered up, you just wait for a minute or two for the beeps and you are good to go. You use the trigger for the steam and with no temperature gauge you can switch between cottons and delicates with literally no wait as it's the steam pressure that does the trick and it does so VERY well making ironing less of a chore and so much faster compared to a conventional iron. Note you may experience a bit of whistling/screeching on the first few uses but that soon goes. You will need to de-calc every few weeks especially if you live in a hard water area but that is easy enough. Just make sure you have plenty of water in the tank and place it in the tray provided. Use?** A: Yes it does **Q: This iron seems to produce the steam a couple of seconds after you've pressed the button, instead of as you press the button, which is not ideal?** A: Sadly yes this seems to be the case but this is less prevalent when taking it out of autosense and just having it at maximum. Also, it does say in the instructions that prior to ironing the fabric you should first vent/steam away from the garment and only use short bursts on the steam button. Ironed everything perfectly at exactly the right temperature . However, on the second use it started spitting dirty water on to my clothes. Thought it might need to be emptied (using the descaling drainage plug) in case there was dirty inside from when it was manufactured. Unscrewing the plug was quite a tight affair but it came out eventually. Quite a bit of dirty water came out but when I tried to screw the plug back in again, it wouldn't go back in and on checking, I can see the plugs female thread on the inside is out of alignment and the plug cannot locate the thread to screw back in again. Contacted Phillips and sent pictures to them and they confirmed it was faulty but instead of offering a replacement they offered a repair. Bearing in mind this iron is less than two weeks old, a replacement is their legal obligation under the sale of good act, not a repair. They then suggested if I want a replacement I have to go back to Amazon which I did and Amazon have sent out a replacement. Just as well as the price I paid was £240 and this iron has now gone up to £400 - absolutely not worth £400 and I would not have purchased it if it was £400. Let's see what the replacement is like and hopefully an improvement on this one Update: I've been using the replacement for some months now. It is faultless, perfect ironing every time. I actually enjoy ironing now. Never have to fiddle with heat setting ever again. Just pick your garment or bedding & iron for a perfect finish.
