A Loud, Polished Atmos Mix That Plays It Safe
Let’s get one thing out of the way: Thor: Love and Thunder on 4K disc sounds very good, but it’s not the demo disc its bombastic tone might suggest. This is a clean, modern Dolby Atmos mix that prioritizes consistency and clarity over raw dynamic punch. At reference level (0.0 dB), the mix is undeniably loud, but not particularly explosive. Dynamics are somewhat compressed compared to top-tier Atmos titles. Quiet scenes don’t drop as low as they should, and action sequences—while impactful—rarely deliver that chest-thumping contrast that makes reference-level playback truly exciting. The LFE channel is solid but conservative. Bass is present, tight, and well-controlled, yet rarely ventures into “show-off” territory. Even during large-scale action and god-level theatrics, the low end feels restrained—more supportive than dominant. It’s good bass, just not the kind that makes you glance at your subwoofers and smile. Surround and height activity is frequent and well integrated, but also very on-brand for modern Marvel mixes: lots of ambience, music spread into the heights, and occasional effects overhead—but few moments that really scream “this is why you installed Atmos.” The soundstage is wide and enveloping, yet rarely startling or daring. Dialogue clarity is excellent, even during chaotic scenes at reference level. Vocals remain anchored and intelligible, and the mix never collapses into harshness or distortion. The soundtrack and needle-drops are mixed loudly and cleanly, though they sometimes dominate the presentation rather than enhance immersion. Importantly, this is still far superior to streaming. The disc offers better headroom, cleaner transients, and more stable bass. But compared to truly reference-caliber Atmos discs, this one feels more engineered for safety than designed to impress. Bottom line: Thor: Love and Thunder on 4K disc delivers a polished, competent Dolby Atmos mix that sounds good at reference level without ever fully cutting loose. If you’re expecting demo-worthy dynamics or room-shaking bass, this isn’t it—but if you want clean, consistent, theater-style sound that won’t fatigue you, it gets the job done. ⸻ Audio System Used (Reference-Level Playback) • Listening Level: 0.0 dB (reference level) • AVR: Denon AVR-X4500H • Power Amps: • Emotiva (~145 W/ch @ 8 ohms) • Monolith M7100X 7-channel amp • Speakers: • Front L/R: ELAC Debut 2.0 F5.2 • Center: ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 • Surrounds: Monolith T5 towers • Rear Surrounds: KEF Q150 • Atmos: ELAC Debut 2.0 A4.2 (front), ELAC IC-DT61-W (rear height) • Subwoofers: Dual REL T/1003 (10”) • Disc Player: Panasonic UB420

Meh!
My least favorite Thor Movie. Taika Watiti struck gold with Thor Ragnarok, but he should have left the casino while he was ahead. His second shot at a Thor movie feels like he tried too hard to be funny. Also-this being a Marvel/Disney film-the audio tack is low and disappointing.

THOR is LIGHTNING !!!!!
Thor: Love and Thunder is a thrilling and action-packed movie that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. Directed by Taika Waititi, this film is a perfect blend of humor, heart, and epic battles. The storyline follows Thor as he teams up with the mighty Valkyrie and the fierce warrior Jane Foster, who becomes the new Thor. Together, they must face off against a powerful new enemy that threatens the entire universe. The performances in Thor: Love and Thunder are top-notch, with Chris Hemsworth delivering another charismatic and powerful performance as Thor. Tessa Thompson shines as Valkyrie, bringing a fierce and determined energy to the role. And Natalie Portman is a revelation as the new Thor, showcasing her strength and vulnerability in equal measure. The special effects in this film are truly stunning, with breathtaking visuals and epic battle scenes that will leave you in awe. The humor in Thor: Love and Thunder is also on point, providing much-needed comic relief in between the intense action sequences. Overall, Thor: Love and Thunder is a must-see for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and lovers of epic superhero films. With its strong performances, stunning visuals, and engaging storyline, this movie is sure to leave a lasting impression on audiences.

Ten thousand points to Portman
That's what I wanted to see. She pumped up and looked the part as well as acting it. You won't get any complaints from me on that point. If she somehow got her own film, I'd like to see her keep pushing those physical boundaries. I'd say my biggest issue with the film is she's under-used. Overall, it's a Thor movie. It's serious enough, but campy, cheesy, and basically an excuse to see people smash things with hammers and make lightning, and also for them to look like they can actually do it. Both of them are believable in their roles. Didn't see the end coming at all, but it allows a wild series in the future, and I suppose the passing of the torch may happen at some point, but as long as I see that much effort put into fitting the role properly, that's fine by me. That's where the controversy in some films has come from. Look the part. Hollywood isn't fair, so punch harder than the next guy, even if you're not one. You'll get the respect. Some extreme people have complained about LGB stuff... Where? What does it matter with aliens, anyway? Dude nailed a wolf-chick on top of a proper wolf, and you're worried about LGB stuff? LMAO Whatever message they might have had was very well-integrated, and I don't want to see another comment about Hemsworth's bare tail. That was my 67 year old hardline Catholic mother's favorite part. Complain about that, and I'll just say you're ashamed you enjoyed it.

Taika Waititi Kills The Franchise
I read somewhere that Taika Waititi wanted to make a movie that would upset the fans and judging by the many disappointed reviews, I’d say that in this respect Thor Love & Thunder was a runaway success. Watching Thor Love & Thunder was basically like spending 2 hours watching some over-indulged child of the 80’s playing with his colorful yet ultimately disposable plastic toys. I felt bad for the writers/directors of the first two Thor movies who worked so hard to bring the comic book character to the screen. Waititi takes all their hard work and squanders it in a spectacular display of mediocrity. Taika Waititi is also known as a comedian and indeed, the film’s already anemic plot is pretty much obscured by the wall-to-wall dad jokes; and herein lies the problem: yes, we all know superhero movies are absurd and ridiculous. But Marvel generally does a good job of tempering this, allowing us to suspend our disbelief for the duration of the movie….and, indeed, by laughing at themselves to boot. It’s a fine balance and sadly all it takes to ruin it is a director who repeatedly hits us over the head with how unserious the movie is. In this instance, it’s literally done at the expense of all the OTHER elements that usually make Marvel so entertaining. Okay, Taika, we get it; people flying around in capes won’t win the Critics Choice Award. But by treating the whole venture as essentially a throwaway piece, Waititi is also missing the entire point of the genre. If people want an out and out parody, do they go see Star Wars or Spaceballs? The bottom line is that you walk away from this movie feeling like the director simply didn’t care — so, why should we? To be fair, the previous film, Ragnarok, worked (mostly) because it was quirky. I think if Love & Thunder had been true to the tone and spirit of the earlier movies, the third film could’ve been an interesting and entertaining outlier, but sadly all episode IV does is take the worst aspects of the third movie and run with them. The actors do the best they can with seriously unworthy material and Hemsworth is once again called upon to carry the piece. Likewise, Bale’s bad guy is wasted on this fiasco of a production. Ultimately this is just a bad movie and proof that no matter how big the budget, a bad script/director will always drive a project into the ground. Waititi calls himself a director AND a comedian. Let's hope that by the time he directs his NEXT movie he's finally decided what he wants to be when he grows up. Sadly this may be Hemsworth’s last outing as Thor. I sincerely hope I’m wrong about that, but a Thor V would need some serious recalibration and I wouldn’t be surprised if this travesty of a production didn’t lead to a Spider/Super/Bat Man-type reboot of this once awesome franchise. Oh and if you’re wondering whether to buy the DVD — don’t. This one is definitively made for TV.
