Review: Good result for minimal effort - Nice model, easy to build and a good finished result. I’ve a few quick build models, mostly aircraft which can be built in a few minutes. This kit is a bit bigger so takes a little longer, not so long you get bored but long enough to enjoy the process of building the model. Many of the pieces click together in a Lego style fashion although the studs are shallower so a little more fragile than a Lego model would be, it’s a touch fiddly at the end because of it but just needs a slightly delicate touch. Finished model is good, wouldn’t be robust enough for a child to play with but as a display item it’s fine. I know that a good modeller with a proper Airfix kit could make a much more detailed model given several hours and a selection of enamel paints but I know from experience that if I tried to do a conventional kit, I’d end up with glue blobs with fingerprints on, mediocre paint job and the water slide transfers would try my patience. I’d not enjoy building the model nor be pleased with it when finished. On building my bus I was confused as I couldn’t work out the glazing for the upper deck, this was because it had two right hand glass panels and a missing one on the left. I emailed Hornby with pictures and details thinking they might send me a replacement part. They sent out a complete new kit, so I’ve built the original without the panel which hardly shows and I’ll have one facing each way. Cheers Hornby.
Review: no paint, no glue ! well maybe a little glue ! - Bought to build as a gift for my mother who has a thing for VW campers. I am not new to model making, but having seen others struggle i prepped for a battle (1 I saw took nearly 2 hours to get done). using lego style fixings technically the whole thing should be glueless, heres what i found, it all fitted together in around 20 mins, not needing to ever dismantel it i used spots of thin glue (pva white glue would do but would slow build) along long seams and for roof, but parts fit lovely and snap fit works. instructions are simple and if followed in order are easy to use, parts are pre coloured or clear, decal as they are are peel stickers. end result is a good model of a VW 1965 camper with vinyl/rubber wheels. who is it good for ? VW FANS, Children or anyone either new to or inexperienced with model building, even experienced modellers looking for a break from the 500 + piece hyper detailed models they're used to. infact its a fun build for anyone from box minimum age to elders though if you have large fingers or arthritic knuckles I would suggest good tweezers for some fo the small parts and stickers. Verry pleased with kit and moms over the moon with the result.
