CASP+ CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner Certification Kit: Exam CAS-004

Work has been using this to prep for new cert requirements, and everyone has gotten a bit of knowledge from it. And the practice tests are great for us to quiz each other.

This book is great and a big help for studying CASP+

Best book for anyone interested in advancing his/her cyber career.

Used these books and I passed

I was sincerely looking forward to passing the exam so I could come back here and trash this book without being discredited as bitter. I did pass -- yesterday. My feelings towards this book are unchanged. So.. let's keep this organized: 1) Errors. This is a *4th* edition and it contains more objective errors than is tolerable. I scoured the internet for a list of errata but have found nothing from author or publisher. I'm not talking about answers I disagree with. I'm only talking about answers that are verifiably false. 2) Repetition. I read it cover to cover and after my 3rd bout of de ja vu, I sanity checked myself. They copy entire sections of the text and re-use it verbatim in later chapters. It isn't re-framed in light of the section topic, it's just lazily copy-pasted right back in. 3) Alignment with CompTIA exam format. With few exceptions, the questions (chapter/exam) are simplified, direct, and test generally one or two (max) concepts at a time. They do not prepare you for the complex "select the BEST" style questions. It's like the author had never taken the exam. I checked, only one did. I give this a 3, because it does step through the official exam content outline and the book contains most of the raw information you need to know. The question bank, however, is a travesty. I passed despite it. I would highly recommend Dion Training's practice exams (direct or via Udemy).

Overall it does contain useful and relevant information, but I am an expert in Vulnerability Management, and the Vuln Mgt section contained tons of errors and incorrect information. I cant speak as much to the other sections. Also its as if one person wrote the content, and a different person wrote the questions. many of the test sample questions were not directly covered in or even contradicted the content. I would recommend going with a different book/author for CASP studying.
