Up date.
O.K. yes it is written in fluent Britt, and metric dimensions but, if you can't sharpen worth a crap, this book is for you. That is the grinding rest and accessories. I just ordered Milling for the home machinist because it has plans for a more advanced rest. As far as projects go Harold Halls' books have the better projects. I have metal lathe for home machinist, 16 metal working workshop projects, tool and cutter sharpening and the above mentioned book on the way. Each one well worth the money. I have project books by other authors that aren't worth the ink used to print them. Harold has a web page that tells what projects he has out there and how to get them, just google him. The page is hard to follow but well worth checking out. Also, you do have to know more then just how to turn on your machine, but the books do have plenty of easy, useful projects to help with learning. And, these days, you can't afford the cost of metal for useless projects.Up dateI started making the grinding rest. Doing this with imperial tools makes for a lot of head scratching ie, i want to replace 5 mm thread with 1/4 -20 thread for the lead screw, why you may ask, a 20 pitch gives me a .001 feed rate. Other parts need to be made bigger to fit around the 1/4. I may be able to use 6-40 but i'm concerned with binding issues (had that problem before). But, i guess that's what i get for trying to make someone else's project fit my wants. Can't wait to finish this and start the accessories.Finished the rest and some acc.One last word, the diagrams, pictures and written instructions are lacking in details. You must be able to read between the lines and visualize in your mind how the the project works to fill in the blanks. With lack of details and having to adapt to imperial, the rest took way to long to finish. A lot people say, converting m&ms to imperial is easy, divide this times that and you have it. Wrong answer!!! You have a conversion not a fit.In closing, a tool and die maker could make this in his sleep, if you are the type that works best with prints, good luck. All in all, the books have a plenty of other projects that make them worth getting.

Great tool and cutter sharpening project plans
If you are looking for a machining project complete with drawings, here you go. I'm in the process of building the advanced grinder rest and have built the drill jig. Wish I had gotten this and his other books sooner. All the dimensions are in metric and i've chosen to make the physical dimensions of the parts in mm's and the threaded parts in imperial threads. I'd do everything metric if I had the tooling to do it.

great information
I just bought a Cincinnati No. 2 cutter grinder at an auction for my home shop but don't have anyone to teach me how to use it. I have the manual for the machine, but this book covers the science behind the sharpening process. I have several books by Harold Hall and recommend them for any beginner or hobby machinist.
