Veggie Tales: Lord of the Beans, A Lesson in Using Your GIfts

Sharing Your Gift
The "VeggieTales" gang have done it again. "Lord of the Beans" is a wonderful tale built around (obviously) the "Lord of the Rings" films and the books they are based on. In this particular tale, Jr. Asparagus is Toto Baggypants, who is given a magical bean that can make anything happen and grants all of its owner's desires. Of course, this poses a dilemma since Toto doesn't know what to do with his gift. He decides to journey to the land of Woe to find out what he must do with his gift. He is aided by the fellowship of the bean on his journey. This fellowship contains the funny characters Randalf, Can-O-Corn, Leg-O-Lamb, Grumpy and The Other Elf.In typical Veggie fashion, there are plenty of plays on words, silly jokes and cute songs. My personal favorite part of this movie is the "Spork" army and how The Other Elf deals with them. Of course, there is a solid Biblical message of sharing your gift with others, even if you'll receive no benefit from it.The DVD is jam-packed with extras. They include a video and interview with Wynonna Judd, games and fun, a family activity, a recipe and plenty more. The DVD-ROM includes coloring and activity sheets among other things.I highly recommend this and ALL of the "VeggieTales" adventures. They teach great morals and life lessons that are so lacking in mainstream entertainment these days. They teach kids in a fun way that doesn't push anything on them. In fact, the children will learn without even knowing they are learning. Pick up a copy of this DVD now!

He loved it
Being that Veggie Tales was our childhood, I got this for him for his birthday. The disc included many activities and such, which made us relive moments of life.

Nothing but great entertainment!!!
Despite what some other reviewers have said about this movie moving out of line with Christian values or some other such things, I have to say that claim is untrue and this is an excellent movie. One of the great things about Veggie Tales is that unlike Barney, there is actually humor we adults can appreciate. My own children are older now so I can't speak for those with younger kids, but I can say that mine love LOTR and get a huge kick out of this parody. In fact, after we watch LOTR we often pull this one out just for the fun of it.Just as in all series there will some that are better and some that are not as good. For all intents and purposes this one is on par with all the ones we love the most. And, why not take what Hollywood has done and make something that kids can remember and relate to as they get older. I know my kids will always think of Sporks and "the other elf" and chuckle as they're watching LOTR.This really is a great movie. Better if you're a LOTR fan.

Probably Funnier for Adults than Kids
The humor in the cartoon is based on a knowledge of the LOTR films, so while small children will find it entertaining, the jokes are for the adults who will catch all the film references

Awesome Movie for an Awesome Price
This is the cutest, most hilarious Veggie Tales I’ve seen, and I was heartbroken when I lost my original copy before I got the chance to make my boyfriend watch it. I was dubious at how little I paid for it, but now I’m just elated. The DVD arrived in perfect condition - exactly what I was looking for! Thanks so much!

Much Less Awkward Than Elijah Wood
This is a very silly reinterpretation of Peter Jackson's mini-series length film masquerading as a single movie "The Fellowship of The Ring". Although it is very loosely based on it, it hits most of the bullet point references in the film and does a good job of entertaining the kids while making fun of the whole LoTR pop culture for us nerd-parents. I will say though, I probably would have enjoyed FoTR a lot more had Mr. Jackson hired Larry-Boy instead of the ever awkward E. Wood who seems to painstakingly project the most awkward emotional sequences I've ever seen outside of Latin Telenovelas.

"If you can read this your too close!"
First of all, if you are a fan of LOTR then you will LOVE Lord of the Beans. My father even laughed as my daughters watched. Our first veggie tales video was the collection of silly songs and since then we have been loyal veggies fans. I think the reason I enjoy the videos as much as my children is because there are subtle jokes that the grown ups understand. It makes it much easier to watch than some cartoons.I think Lord of the Beans was just icing on the cake. It was a great lesson of sharing your special gifts with those less fortunate. I know my daughters are only two but they love veggie tales and I know they will take away the important lessons as they get older.

Great parody with a valuable lesson about using your gifts.
I grew up on the original veggie tales and now my kids are enjoying them as well. The parodies like "Lord of the Beans" (Lord of the Rings) provide great fun for parents watching with their kids and the kids get some fun entertainment with a good lesson. My wife and I especially enjoyed the "Sporks" (Orcs).
