I also super glued the one that cracked and was able to save it as well so I'm more than covered. But you should think about buying the extra set of extensions so you're all set if one or two decide to break. But other than that...hook it up to your vacuum and away you go. Wondering if it is too loud for a dog to sit through the process?** A: It is designed for cutting human hair but with care and caution it can be used on dogs with medium to long fur that is not very thick. Suggest you use a vacuum that you can adjust and control the suction. A vacuum with too much suction can pull in some loose skin areas on your pets and cause harm. I suggest you keep your hand on the vulnerable areas to keep the skin tight to prevent it from being sucked into the blade chamber if you are using the shortest attachment. Use extreme caution anywhere near the ears and paws, they can easily get sucked in and do real harm to them. I have used them on my 3 dogs for many years and it's a very effective way to groom your dogs if used properly and can save a lot of money. But, you must put in the time and work to do it. Depending on how long the fur is and how short you plan to cut it, will determine how much time it will take you to get the job done. If it's long and you plan to shorten it by an inch or more, then cut about 1/4 of an inch at a time. Much more effective and won't damage the flowbee. That means you may have to change the cutting attachment for a shorter cut several times to achieve the length you want. Use a cooling spray lubricant often designed for clippers every 15 to 20 minutes. Now, getting your dog acquainted to the flowbee and the sounds. Start by making sure your pet is secure and calm preferably on a grooming table. Take the head of the flowbee without the vacuum or flowbee head turned on and simulate the trimming process for several minutes to get them used to the bumping action on there body. Continue until the seem at ease with what is happening and they do not fear it. Next, turn on the vacuum and repeat that same process until you get the same fearless compliance. The next step is where you must have patience but it does work. Turn on the flowbee cutting head along with the vacuum, but do not touch your dog with it. Move it all around you pet slowly until your pet becomes complacent, calm and gets use the sound from both the cutting head and vacuum. When your pet seems to no longer fear the sounds, slowly begin to tap along the the back from the lower neck back to the hind legs. If your pet reacts with uneasiness back off until they relax but do not turn off the flowbee or vacuum. Slowly begin the process of trimming and repeat if necessary. Your pet will become fearless of the trimming process after they know it will not harm them. I have three dogs and have followed these steps with all three and none of them fear the grooming process. LOVE IT...GET ONE...you'll be glad you did. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As Good as the Old Model as Far as I can Tell *by R***N on February 25, 2015* On Jan 19, 2015, Flo, as she was affectionately known in our house, died. But she died on the job, amazingly just as she completed her last cut. I took her apart and tried to revive, but lo and behold the cam that connects the motor to the blades had sheared, leaving resuscitation impossible. However, the motor was still running. RIP~~~1992-2015. Twenty three years old. With at least one cut a month that is 276 cuts. Bought her on sale for $59. You do the math, based on how much a person would spend on hair cuts in your area, for how much I saved. But the savings is not the best thing. I did not have to make appointments, spend time in a salon, did not have to leave the house, it is fast (5 minutes at best), no tips, and as good a cut as I would have received anywhere based on my style of cut. Plus I can keep my hair with that just cut look as often as I want. Now if you do unusual tapering or cutting, it can be done with this, but it would take more time, and may require the help of another person. So I was hoping they still made these, and although the look has changed over the years, I was glad I found out it was still available. Since 1992 I found that there are other possibilites of this format available. I checked them out and still came back to the Flowbee. Some people here complain about the quality of the materials. From what I observed, I have found that criticism to be unfounded. Although time will tell if it holds up as well as the old one I guess. I have enclosed a picture to show the difference in design (new on left), but the plastic casing should hold up as well the old one under normal use. I do not think either would survive a drop on a hard surface. I agree, the plastic spacers should be of better quality, but they are the same material as my old ones, and they lasted 23 years. Yes, some of the old ones did break, but I was able to use glue or tape to repair them. I do not know if it was a mistake, but this new Flowbee came with two sets of spacers. I am going to still use my old ones until they totally give out, as they still fit the new unit perfectly. As far as how the new Flowbee works, it seems to cut as well or better than my old one. One would hope so as the blades should be sharper. No complaints here. If you are new to this system, make sure you use the oil supplied to lube the blades at least every other cut. The oil they supply should last the lifetime of the unit, as I still have some left over from the old one. One other thing I like is that the new one has a hose adapter that makes it easier to connect to my shopvac. By the way, if you want the most even cut possible, make sure your shopvac is at least 2 HP. I actually use the one in my shop and it is 5.5 HP. Draws the hair up to be cut accurately and as fast as possible. My kids did not call it the "suck cut" for nothing.
