even though the track tested out fine (wtf! )
If your train doesn't work initially, READ THIS before shipping it back. Initially my engine did not work. Remove the tiny screw on top the engine and remove the housing. Take a 9v battery and hold the terminals against the right and left halves of the train. The little DC motor should fire right up, spin the worm gear, and turn the wheels. This at least proves the engine is OK. After i did this, i re-installed the housing and the engine did not work again, even though the track tested out fine (wtf!). All it took to make it run was to loosen the screw holding the housing on. If it's screwed in too tight it will cause a short, and not put the DC through the motor. I read through the troubleshooting manual and all sorts of engine troubleshooting forums, and none of them suggested this. Other than that initial headache, the train works great!

Great set.
I bought this to make a coffee table loop for the grandkids. Very well made, track snaps together easily and absolutely no issues. Train ran for over a hundred hours during their Christmas visit. Impressive Bachmann quality, as always.

Issues but fixable
** Important cute little set, engine would not run called Bachmann no help, put a meter on the track make sure its getting power.track has power the issue is with engine.Amazon reshipped a replacement. Same issue!!!OK this is the fix!! On the top of the engine a small black screw, (don't loose the screw) lift off the engine cover. you will see 2 screws, i just loosed them a touch. Then placed the engine back on the powered track!!! Success. I think the screws were too tight not allowing the motor gear to turn. Replace the engine cover, and enjoy the set.N-scale set are very tricky but for 100 buck well worth it. I plan on telling Bachmann as the quality control is poor, Thanks for reading

gorgeous little train!
Expected the train to look like cheap plastic, but i was very surprised! It was a beautiful very tiny train. It's pretty quiet, but gives off some white noise. I keep it running beside my bed to help me sleep. I am sure it's quite fragile though, probably not a gift for anyone under 10. The plug in to the track is quite touchy though, it does make the train stop if you hit it. But it looks better and retains its value better than any battery operated train on the market. Just overall, a great item.

Beware: Bachmann is the Grinch that stole a model-train Christmas!
Wow! What a huge disappointment! I set up this beautiful-looking set, plugged it in, and nothing! I contacted a local model train hobbyist who kindly said, "oh-oh" when he heard I bought a Bachmann set. That was my first sign I was in trouble. I took the engine to him. It was so poorly constructed, barely receiving current. He took it apart & re-stored it in 20 minutes, warning me that I'll probably get frustrated with Bachmann going forward. Got home with my now-running engine but now the couplers on the passenger cars wouldn't connect. After fiddling & fiddling, getting a coupler connection, I'd attempt to go round the oval track plus the extra track I had purchased with the hopes of having more than an oval, and you guessed it, more problems: derailment-city. What a waste of time & money. My hope for a model-train Christmas dashed by the absolute junk Bachmann calls a train set. Ugh. Stay away.

Small train
I love this little train so much. I got more accessories to make an entire scene and I’m so excited. I am most definitely getting more sets

Looking great, but the engine is not the best!
I received Bachmann Durango and Silverton train set in a timely manner and put it on my layout, but the Engine kept jumping the track, I had checked the tracks and they are okay, seems to me that the engine gears are out of sync, so other than sending it back, I put the Engine and Tender on Display and the Passenger Coaches are hooked up to the Super Chief and looking great!

Works, but needs work
The media could not be loaded. So I had read all the other reviews, or at least those where they talk about the problems and how to fix them, and decided to take a chance on this set. I get it to function, but it took some time and effort. The other reviews/solutions were very helpful, but none of them fully solved my problem, so I figured I'd write down what I did.1) Be careful when assembling the tracks. It's called E-Z, but it really should be E-Zier but not foolproof. When the rails connect, they have small metal fittings for the bottom of the metal rails. Make sure these slide in. A number of mine were bent slightly, so I used some needle nose pliers to bend them back. To be fair to Bachman, these issues are covered in the guide to E-Z Track assembly. I'm not big on reading manuals (especially those called E-Z), but I'd definitely suggest glancing at this one.2) Some reviews talked about loosening the internal screws, and another mentioned loosening the top screw that holds on the cover. I had to fully remove all these screws before the engine would run. Even the one on the top cover, if it was screwed in at all, even lightly, the engine wouldn't move. To reiterate what others have said, remove the top screw and cover, and then you'll see two screws on the side of the engine block. I would try loosening them first as others have said, but if that doesn't work, then I would just remove them altogether. My locomotive seems to run fine without them.3) Even after this, the train still wouldn’t run reliably. It would just stop frequently. I could get it to run again by pressing down lightly on the engine, so I ended up taping 3 quarters on top (see video). After running the engine around the loop a few times, I could take the quarters off and it would still run reliably.4) Finally, connecting the cars was a bit of a pain, but it was easy once I figured out to lower them in, then put the car on the track, instead of the more intuitive method of putting the car on the track and then rolling it to connect the couplers.Once I did all that, the train seemed to run fine. I can run it at any speed, even all the way up, without derailment or problem.
