Phenomenal Sound! (UPDATE FIRMWARE ASAP!)
These headphones sound phenomenal and are extremely comfortable and for that are a clear 5* rating. I personally would drop a star for the touch controls. The controls generally seem to work fine except for volume control, which is hit and miss. But as I only use these for music and nothing else, the sound and comfort is 5* (the other controls generally seem to work OK). ***IMPORTANT***: When I first tried the headphones I was NOT impressed. The Bass was to overpowering, and due to an only 3 band EQ could not compensate for the over pronounced Bass! I was on the verge of sending them back, when a firmware update appeared! After the 20min update.... WOW! Not only had the 3 band EQ changed to a 5 band EQ, but the Bass issue was resolved! So now the EQ remains flat and natural. For Bass lovers there is a 'Bass Boost' as well as standard presets. I previously had the Momentum 2 earbuds which was exceptional and similar sound to these Momentum 4s in sound signature. Obviously as the Momentum 4s are closed headphones they trump the Momentum 2 earbuds. Unfortunately one the earbuds stopped working and I replaced them with the Momentum 3 earbuds. Unfortunately I felt these a downgrade from the Momentum 2 earbuds! Although a more snug fit, they failed on everything else! The sound wasn't a crystal, they let to much sound in spoiling my listening pleasure... and the Momentum 2s looked more pristine. I hated the fact the Momentum 3 earbuds let to much sound in! My kids are always arguing etc and my sanity required to jump from earbuds to closed headphones! I love Sennheiser, but the Momentum 3s had me wondering if I would continue with Sennheiser. I did all the usual reviews etc and the Momentum 4s seem to have the 'overall' edge, with a resounding winner for sound. As I consider myself an Audiophile and don't care about phone calls etc, I only wanted for my Flac Library. So in short: The sound is phenomenal providing you ***DOWNLOAD the Firmware***! I also am taken aback by the comfort as the ear pads are so soft! These headphones may not be for everyone due to the touch controls and possible phone and other functions etc which I am not personally interested in. If like me, you only want for music... they are 5*, and I am pleased... no, VERY PLEASED I get a break from my arguing kids! ***UPDATE*** This is an ANC update. I didn't mention this before as I hadn't used them outside and the Momentum 2 earbuds only worked slightly and the M3 earbuds let so much noise in I had given up! Now back to these Momentum 4s.... I am BLOWN AWAY with the ANC! for the first time I feel like I can post a positive review on ANC. I suspect a lot of the positives are due to the headphone being 'closed', but I still think I need to give credit to how they function. So inside, the music is full whilst allowing enough sound in to acknowledge a doorbell etc... just. But I think the quieter the music, the more outside noise you would here. NOW THEN.... This is where I am truly impressed! I use the Momentum 4s to walk my dog on my mobility scooter. It is absolutely surreal how the ANC works. Despite the music being full (and I don't mean volume) and in your head... I can still hear passing traffic whilst the music still feels complete and uninterrupted! Also a brush of wind and the ANC automatically adjusts to compensate and cut wind sound down instantly by around 90% to unnoticeable! Sorry I can't compare to other brands, but as an Audiophile I am beyond pleased and so glad I jumped to closed headphones. (I just preferred the discreteness of earbuds)

REVIEW: Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones
Sound-wise, a definite cut above the norm which is extremely important for headphones of this price bracket. Clarity, bass extension, neutral sound, frequency extension, etc. ... all good. Sound-wise, up there with the best. The technical wizardry is also commendable and mostly works well but, note, there is a learning curve which can be frustrating! The only gripe I have (&, this could be my mistake in some way) is that the functionality when first booting up these phones does not activate on its own; one needs to dig into the mobile app one has downloaded onto one's phone to get all the functionality working. Still scratching my head about this, but, not a train smash at the end of the day. App functionality is very good: not too "teccie" driven (which irks me, viz., too much arcane functionality) and the sound configuration plus other aspects to good user performance is great. Note, tho', one HAS to spend some time getting to understand this functionality. Overall, these 'phones are well worth buying re. sound quality in all the right ways. That alone is a plus for me. If you wish for a more simple experience with your phones, then, it's best to look elsewhere. But, these are really great phones and worth looking into.

Satisfied.....at last!
After many years and many attempts with finding (my) perfect headphones I am finally satisfied. I purchased a pair of expensive but very nice Sennheiser HD660S2 open back headphones. Music played through them sounds great...but I am sadly a person who wonders could things be better? I fell into the trap of buying different DAC gizmos and cables which if I am being honest did nothing to improve the sound. And believe me, I have bought many other headphones, currently owning B&W, Grado, FiiO and Beyerdynamic models all in the search for sonic Nirvana. I was sick to the back teeth of fiddling about and listening to equipment performance instead of enjoying music. So I thought I'd give a decent pair of wireless headphones a go thinking that it would at least take cables and DAC's out of the equation. After seeing the Momentum 4's on sale for £199 and reading positive reviews about them I decided to give them a go with a view to returning them if they weren't up to scratch. I'm glad to say they exceeded my expectations. They are so good that I am amazed really. They excell with all genres, just lovely. Crisp highs and lows as low as to be subterranean when called upon. As good or better than all my other headphones irregardless of price. Plus all the convenience of wireless connectivity. With all the questions (for me) of 'what if I do this' removed I feel I can get on with spending on new music rather than equipment. As for build quality and comfort I can't fault them, they come with a nice sturdy case as well. Oh and battery life is outstanding. I don't wear headphones outdoors so I don't use any of the features built into the right ear cup via touch, preferring to keep them switched off by utilising the Sennheiser app. Once I had used the EQ part of the app to find my preferred profile I have felt no need to look at it again. If these headphones continue to work for many years I know I'll not be buying any new models again.

Very good sound quality and effective ANC. Not so good for watching TV.
I was surprised at the quality of the sound from the Momentum 4. There is a bass boost available but I certainly haven't found a need for it. How it is achieved I don't know but the sound is less centralised than other headphones I use. This has the effect of separating instruments in the music listened to. I find adjusting the volume a bit hit and miss. It is a pity volume control isn't in the Sennheiser App. Sometimes it takes several attempts at swiping my finger up and down before the volume will respond. There is an audio message when you reach the minimum or maximum volume which can be useful. You can adjust the transparency of the ambient sound by pinching two fingers on the touch sensitive right pad. What I use a lot is a double tap on the right pad which switches from ANC to ambient and back. The ANC can be set to be fully sound cancelling, fully ambient, or in-between via the Sennheiser App. A single tap pauses a recording if it is possible to control the source via Bluetooth. I only listen to my hifi so don't use the gestures for pausing or switching tracks so the single tap just mutes the sound which I find useful. The manual says that the headphones are AtpX Adaptive (AtpX, AptX Low Latency) or AAC. If the transmitter doesn't support these it uses SBC. I have tried three different transmitters and couldn't get low latency which results in lipsynch problems watching TV. If the transmitter has AtpX Adaptive it connects using that. If not it connects using AptX. I could get the connection to switch to AtpX HD but not AtpX LL. This is frustrating as I specifically was looking for headphones that would connect via AtpX LL. I contacted Sennheiser support and was informed that despite what is in the manual the headphones do not work with AtpX LL. AptX Adaptive doesn't have the low latency of AtpX LL and so the lipsynch issue watching TV can't be avoided unless you connect using cable instead of Bluetooth. Something I have experienced as well is if you have the TV sound on while listening with the headphones you can hear both with a long delay. Presumably because the sound from the TV external to the ear pads and inside the ear pads is very similar so the noise cancelling isn't so effective. Very disappointing. The Sennheiser App enhances the Momentum 4 with a lot of configuration options. Although some people are disappointed at only having a three band equaliser to play with, there are a number of preset settings to suit what you are listening to. If you want to create your own you are presented with choosing the best sound to your liking as you listen to the sound you are configuring for. It does this several times making adjustments each time and then finally the settings are saved with a name of your choice. An unusual option I haven't met before is the ability to save settings for zones. Useful things about the Momentum 4 is the ability to press the button on the right ear pad and the current battery capacity is announced. The headphones can be connected via Bluetooth, wired via an aux audio jack, and wired via USB. The headphones can also be used purely for sound cancelling only if you want to shut out a noisy environment when doing something like reading. Lastly, when I first received the headphones I wore them for almost 12 hours watching TV and listening to music. They are the first headphones that I have owned that didn't cause any discomfort aftera period of use.

Solid Performer, But Not Quite the "Game Changer" I Expected
Review Title: Solid Performer, But Not Quite the "Game Changer" I Expected Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(6,5 / 10) After spending some time with the Sennheiser Momentum 4, I’ve decided to keep them, mainly because the Audeze Maxwell is nowhere to be found in the UK right now. It’s a decent bit of kit, but it hasn’t completely blown me away given the £199 price tag. Here is my honest breakdown: Sound Quality & Power ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐(7/10): The sound is definitely clean, and you can pick out individual instruments quite well. However, the out-of-the-box volume and "punch" felt a bit underwhelming (about a 7/10 for me). It lacks that raw energy I was looking for, though it handles high volumes without distorting, which is a plus. Comfort (8/10): This is probably the strongest suit of the headphones. They are lightweight enough for long sessions and the earpads feel premium. I can wear these at my desk for hours without the usual "clamping" fatigue. App & EQ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5/10): The Smart Control app is a bit of a letdown. It feels clunky and the built-in 5-band EQ is far too limited for a pair of headphones at this price point. I had to resort to third-party desktop software (Peace EQ) to actually get the "thumping" bass and clarity I wanted. It shouldn't be this much work to make them sound great. Value for Money: At £199, I feel these are slightly overpriced. Considering the tech isn't exactly groundbreaking anymore, a price point of around £150 would be much more appropriate. Final Verdict ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (6.5/10): They are good, reliable headphones with great battery potential (still testing that), but they feel more like a safe, "kadife" (velvety) choice rather than a powerhouse. If you want a balanced, comfortable experience and don't mind tinkering with EQ to get some life out of them, they are worth considering.

Amazing quality…when it works.
To coin the satire of George J. Whyte-Melville: these headphones are too clever for their own good. The features include an electronic measure that detect when the headphones have been removed from your head and will automatically pause your content. That’s great, except half the time it thinks you’ve taken them off your head when you’re sat perfectly still, or if you bend down to pick something up. Connectivity is unreliable for two reasons: occasionally the headphones will just randomly turn themselves off for no reason, and when they say “CONNECTED” it’s a hit or miss as to whether they have actually connected or not, forcing you to manually connect to the relevant device (I use mine for my SmartTV, iPhone, and iPad, and have connection issues with all three). Manual controls are all managed by a fancy touchpad encompassing the entire surface of the right headphone. However, occasionally this doesn’t work either when trying to pause content, forcing you to rip the headphones off your head to catch the last part of a train announcement, or having to apologise and look slightly insane when someone starts talking to you. I have also found that, after you’ve manually paused the content, and perhaps you’re holding the headphones in your hands, the content will start playing again without your knowledge. This is particularly annoying for podcasts / audiobooks because then you have to spend ages tracking back to whichever point you think you took the headphones off roughly 12 minutes ago. This is presumably caused by the electronic measures inside the device, or perhaps the touchpad when removing, I’m not sure. The sound quality is incredible and they’re really stylish. The battery life is excellent and the noise cancelling is superb. They come with a great case for safe storage. However, overall, these headphones are far too infuriating to justify the purchase and the cons outweigh the pros. Update (19/11/24): I flayed them to death. Literally the most infuriating product I’ve ever owned. Gone back to my previous earphones.

Amazing sounding headphones
Bought these as my first over ear, noise cancelling, headphones. After agonising over many, many, many YouTube review videos I decided on these and I have not been disappointed. Firstly sound quality - these blow both the Sony and the Bose headphones I tried out out of the water. Their bass is like a visceral living thing, but this does not drown out the miss which are crisp and clear. By far and away these are the best sounding headphones I’ve ever had. Fit - they fit me perfectly. I have quite a large head and found others didn’t quite feel right. These clamp tightly, but are not overly tight. I wore them for about 12 hours straight during an overnight stay in a hospital and I didn’t notice then feeling hot in any places and eventually I forgot I was even wearing them, to the point that I fell asleep with them on. This now brings me to the next thing - their noise cancellation- I don’t know about any of the others noise cancelling, although most of the YouTube videos said that this was the area that these weren’t as strong. My own experience was that they were perfectly adequate to cancel out the annoying snoring from the person in the bed next to me, and all but the loudest sounds in the wards. I’ve also vacuumed the house while wearing them and couldn’t hear the vacuum. Connectivity - I have had no issues with connectivity with these, with zero drop outs. Charging - I have charged them once to full charge and I’m still sitting at 60% battery Ease of use - their touch controls took a bit of getting used to, but I rather think that was a me problem, not being used to the gestures and touches. Value for money - while these are an expensive set of headphones I think they offer great value for money for the sound you get.

Wonderful sound now that initial connection issues resolved
At first I felt these headphones were a mixed bag of tricks. I had read other reviewers had problems but having an earlier Sennheiser model and being familiar with their app I hoped for the best. However it took ages to get going. The on off control is tricky - to get a bluetooth connection the on button must be pressed till the lights flash rapidly. It's also hard to tell if it's really switched off. I then had a nightmare trying to connect to the Sennheiser App. My older set connects to both the app and bluetooth in seconds and works brilliantly but the Momentum 4 took me the best part of an hour plus another thirty minutes to install a firmware update. The problem I had, I think, was I initially tried connecting using a Fire10 tablet and the App just didn't like it. As a last attempt I tried the Fire Max 11 which worked at once. I then then downloaded the update by which time I had had enough electronics for one very stressful evening. The next morning I tried again with the Fire 10 and all was well. It seems the update resolved issues connecting to the App but unless you have another device or can find another way to update it's frustrating. Sennheiser do say their App is designed for phones primarily and do offer support with tablet related problems but in the event I didn't need to contact them. Since that first attempt I have had absolutely no problems with connection at all on any of the three devices I use. The Sennheiser sound is superb on the Momentum 4. I very much like the Sound Check system which helps to establish your personal presets by offering several sets of three settings - you select your preferred out of each set. I like a wide range of music including jazz, opera, rock, metal and in a few minutes was able to save settings for each genre. I had done this before with my older Sennheiser with great success but the sound on this newer set is brilliant. Unlike other reviewers I like the app. Once you find your way round it it's easy to use and the online manual is comprehensive and clearly written. There is only one button on the Momentum 4 much to my relief - and as I have said that one needs a bit of learning to operate effectively. Other controls are by touch and these work extremely well - swipe up and down for volume, touch for stop start etc. Unless you are committed to buttons this is a great improvement. The set is extremely comfortable with a neat flat appearance. I have noticed no clicking or creaking noises and no heat to my ears. It stays connected even when I move around a lot and stops as soon as removed from the head. The case is well designed with room for cables and guidance notes. I have used the set for about 40 hours so far, battery is still 50% charged. Noise Cancellation is easy to adjust on the app or the headphone touch control and seems good although I am in a quiet room. I haven't tried a phone connection as I am in an area where mobile reception is appalling. Overall I am very happy but more comprehensive guidance notes in the initial paperwork would have saved me a frustrating hour - but I say that about anything new!! If your primary wish is great sound at a medium price this is a wonderful buy. But be ready to take time to establish connections and don't miss the update.

Super casque !

Great headphones with spectacular and customisable sound. Battery lasts a long while and the comfort of the pads, over long periods, is good. ANC is customisable and works well as does transparency mode. Best price out of the big hitters and well worth it

Very impressive
I love it. Incredible sound and solid build quality. Battery life is outstanding. The only the issue I am facing is little bit stuttering noise due to unstable connections when connected to my laptop. With my iphone, I don’t face this issue. Overall a very satisfied with my purchase. You might feel little bit heat buildup around you ear since the surface contact of the headphone pads to the ears is little bit wide but very comfortable to wear it as the padding is excellent. So for indoor usage its fine; wouldn’t recommend for workouts.
